Refurbished ResMed Air Curve 10 vAuto BiPAP needed

Post by ellenwyo » Mon May 30, 2022 1:20 pm

Hello all, I am looking to purchase a refurbished ResMed Air Curve 10 vAuto BiPAP as a backup for my sister. Her machine is 5 years old and dying and her provider is dragging its feet to replace/fix it. I don't have a copy of her original prescription to give to sites that require one. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this purchase?

welcome to the zoo! very kind of you to help out your sister and VERY smart to get a backup.

secondwindcpap says under the heading Do I need a prescription to order a cpap-

"All CPAP/BIPAP machines are considered Class II medical devices and require a 'doctor's note'. If you already use a CPAP Machine and are looking for a replacement, back up etc, please call us. We have created a Physician Authorization Form" to assist you in getting your doctor to sign off on your new or used CPAP machine. Many times, your doctor's office will assist you without requiring an office visit; They understand that you need replacement equipment and in many cases your insurance company does not cover the equipment. We can help you facilitate this process, as there are several options available to you. The bottom line is we will be happy to work with you to get the machine you need. Please give us a call or email us."

i have not dealt with them, but they are well known to the forum and trusted. but i really don't know if the above helps or not. can you contact the original doctor? or you may get a prescription written by ANY doctor. even a dentist. if any are willing to do that.

good luck!

I got my current machine lightly used from forum member LSAT. You might PM him to see whether he has anything for you.

I will and I have one more question.. what range of hours used should I shoot for on a used machine? ONe I looked at yesterday had 8792 hours.. I thought that was too much but I don't really know.

Depends on the price as well. High hours and dirt cheap will get a person by for a while.

Personally...depending on price I try to stay under 2 K hours.

The price on the machine I mentioned was $500.. is that normal for an 8700 hour machine?

looks like a really good deal, why is OP opting for a way more used machine?

i don't think she is. i think she's just trying to get some sort of idea of what she can anticipate paying.

what with the resperonics recall and supply chains, people seem to think what they have is a goldmine. so it's really tough to say. personally, i think that's a bit high.

$500 for an 8700 hour machine is way more than I would pay. $100 would be more along the lines I would be comfortable with.

For me to spend 500 bucks on it the hours would have to be less than 1K.
