Is Distilled Water shortage still an issue?

Post by SJ-Paddler » Tue May 03, 2022 6:54 am

Just wondering, I am having no issues finding it anymore.

It that the case for everyone else?

Supply seems back to normal; but the prices are still inflated.
Like everything else.

"distilled water shortage" is only affecting people who haven't gotten the memo that *THEY DON"T NEED TO USE DISTILLED WATER*

You may not NEED to use Distilled Water but I use it for sure whenever possible. When traveling I plan to use bottled water but for daily home use distilled water is the best for me.

You know I have treated "city" water here and if I rinse out the humidifier with clean water and let dry it has water spots all over it. When I dump the leftover distilled water each night it dries clean as if it were new.

For $0.80 a gallon why bother with tap.

I didn't think about it either when it was 80 cents....Last I bought at my local Wally World was 1.18.
I am starting to think about it now.
I am on well water. It's so hard it could slap you in the face and make it hurt. I have used it short term when I was out of distilled without any mineral build up to annoy me but I have been thinking about using it long term to see exactly how long before the mineral build up becomes annoying.
Hubby says as long as we buy water for the Keurig (so it won't get killed prematurely by the mineral deposits) we will buy distilled for my cpap.

The shortages for anything at my local WalMart are sporadic but I have seen times where bottled water was in short supply just recently.
It comes and goes as with all their inventory. I have seen them totally out of all fresh chicken products. We don't plan much in menus now....we wait to see what is in stock and available.

But yes...to answer your question...I have seen recent shortages of distilled water and actually all bottled water.

My local water is extremely hard--so not a big enough difference to care about;
except a beast to clean--and too often for my taste.
An old toilet tank reminds one of a limestone cave--same with dying water heaters.
Not so with my brother--his tap water is excessively chlorinated,
which stings my throat.

I don't know if mine is excessively chlorinated but if you fill up the bath tub, it has a green tinge to it. Normal?

Doesn't taste like a pool but maybe I am used to it.

Watch out for the distilled water for babies--"minerals added for flavor".
Those minerals will stay in your tank, to be removed .

I'm wondering if reverse osmosis water would be suitable. My daughter has an RO tap.

yup. i believe it was sleepgeek that posted about that. it just seems silly to me to take minerals out, then put them back in.

Yeah, when we fill our tube with municipal water, it has a green tinge to it. Our bath towels hang at either end of the tub. They are green. The water is reflecting them.

It tastes salty to you? This tastes flat, like nothing at all.
