OSCAR Screenshots. Don't think I've done this yet.

Post by DaveC » Sun Apr 24, 2022 7:13 pm

I've posted one or two things here but I don't think I've posted any of my OSCAR nights yet. I tend to have CA/OA clusters when I first go to bed...or when I get back in bed after a bathroom break. I feel like those are either positional, sleep transition apnea, sleep/wake junk or some sort of combination of those. Other than that my nights aren't too bad. I would love to have better numbers but I don't know if I'm at the "as good as it gets" point or not. I guess if I took out all the junk apneas my numbers might be better than OSCAR reflects.

Sometimes it's a bit difficult in our minds to mentally manually remove those SWJ/awake breathing flagged events from out "numbers" but that really what we have to do.

Most likely the bulk of those flagged events which occur either at the very beginning of the night or the middle of the night after we have had a break in therapy and then go back to sleep. Some nights take a bit longer to transition over to sleep and it gets reflected in the SWJ flagged events. Chances of SWJ false positive flagging is high and also the chance of just a plain old normal sleep onset central or two is also fairly high.

If your need some mental reassurance that they don't mean much you can always zoom in on the flagged events.

Bear in mind that while those videos are talking more about false positive arousal flagging of centrals it isn't limited to just centrals. Sometimes the machine will also flag false positive SWJ events that are OAs or hyponeas as well.
I have seen it happen myself.

And just so you know you aren't alone here below is a really bad night for me. Major insomnia for a couple of hours.
Never went to sleep at all the first session and then took a long time the second session. I never went to sleep until right around the time that hyponea got flagged at 01:20 or so.

I don't normally pay attention to the clusters when they're at the beginning of the night or after a break. I have no idea what my real numbers are because I really don't want to put in the effort to figure them...and I'm lazy...and they don't matter that much anyway as much as how you feel. But, on the other hand, I'd love to see 0.something numbers consistently.
Here's a zoom of the train wreck at the beginning of the night on 4/21

That's a pretty good sized train wreck for sure. Do what I do...shrug my shoulders and move on.

Here's a hint though the next time you find that you are having a hard time getting to sleep and you know there's going to be some ugliness at the beginning of the night.
Reach over and punch the on/off button so the machine turns off and then push it again to turn it right back on again.
This will give you a break in therapy and a new sleep session.
You can turn off the first sleep session and by turning it off the flagged events will at least be omitted from the detailed report you are looking at.
Look on the left side of the detailed graph under the machine settings..scroll all the way to the bottom where you can see the sleep sessions. You can turn off the first session just by clicking on it to remove the check mark. Then it won't show up on the report.
This only works if you have separate sessions. The AHI will also get recalculated.
