HELP: Heavy/Groggy Eyes After 3.5 Months of CPAP/ASV Therapy

Post by lebrallin » Wed Apr 13, 2022 2:44 pm

Been on CPAP ASV (for CSA) for 3.5 months. Im usually waking up with really heavy/groggy eyes and that lasts throughout the day.

I feel like I just cried and my eyes are tired...Anyone else feel this? i was getting this early on but it went away. Now most recently, it's come back.

I have normal AHIs and minimal leakage for me on Nasal mask. See pictures for more.

Welcome! I'd be curious to see a typical, recent daily chart, with the left-hand panel and as many of these six graphs as you have:

Events
Flow rate
Pressure
Leaks
Snores
Flow limitations.

In the meantime, think hard about what might have changed to have the eye problem come, go, and come back. Anything about your mask or sleep environment? The settings on your machine? Medications? Your eyeglasses or contact lenses? Or ????

One experiment you might try is to wear a comfortable eye mask during the night to see whether than makes a difference.

Aside from the eye problem, are you feeling well rested?

See an ophthalmologist - 'conditions' can be completely coincidental, or at least aggravated by others and/or meds, etc.

Thank you! Attached are some additional charts. To answer your questions: there haven't been any eye problems with eyeglasses or contact lenses, or machines. This was the type of grogginess I got at the beginning of my CPAP usage that for some reason has now returned. I did lower my Max Pressure settings...maybe that's the culprit? I know the youtube guy said that it's the culprit of puffy eyes (in addition to hidden leakages).

Please see attached for day images.

That last chart (with the top of the left panel) was just the ticket. You don't need to supply the others.

Try returning to your earlier pressure settings and see how that goes. Give it at least a couple of days.

Is it possible the straps on your mask are pressing too hard on your face? You could try loosening them a little to see whether you can maintain a good seal with less pressure on your tissues. The straps may be moving fluids from one part of your face to another.

I'm still not sure whether you are feeling sleepy during the day or are just experiencing unwanted sensations in and around your eyes. If you're feeling sleepy during the day, try getting more sleep at night. On the chart you posted, it looks like you had a nap and then less than seven hours of sleep. It could be helpful to you to get more like eight hours at night.

Thank you. I will re-adjust the settings. These are the areas of my eyes that feel off...could it just be that my headgear is too tight?

Yes, that’s possible. Experiment with loosening them a little.
