Any concerns for a newbie to use my friend's old CPAP machine? (ResMed S9)

Post by happyd » Tue Mar 15, 2022 7:09 pm

Hi there,

New Sleep Apnea person here. I just got diagnosed with Severe Sleep Apnea, but there's a backlog for new CPAP machines. My friend offered me her old machine, and the DME can give me supplies (hose, face/nose mask, etc). Is there any issue using an older machine with new supplies?

Details:
Machine Type w/ Humidifier: ResMed S9 IPX1 w/ H5i . Link: https://document.resmed.com/documents/p ... er_eng.pdf

Sleep Apnea Number: 32/hr
Face/Nasal Mask: I will try both as I don't know how I breathe at night

Me: age 40, male.

I tried to search this website, but hit a few snags as it doesn't allow searches for S9.

Thank you in advance!

IF I were in your shoes I would give it a go. Start with a copy of your sleep study AND a copy of the equipment order (that should give you the pressure the doc wants for you) if you don't already have them.

If this cpap is an auto even better.

If you DME weasles out on you - you can always order supplies on Amazon or from another DME - check with your insurance to see who is in network.

Give it a go.

For a forum search you need more characters than S9.

Speaking of characters welcome to the zooo

H5I is the humidifier, ipx1 means that there's no intrusion protection on the machine, but it's "Protected against vertically falling drops of water, e.g. condensation."

https://rainfordsolutions.com/products/ ... explained/

We need to know either the REF number on the back of the blower half, or what it says by the power button, (which will at least narrow it down).

And, no, there's nothing wrong with using an 'older' machine.

The search restrictions for native searching doesn't allow search terms with terms shorter than 4 characters. So if you want to search using "S9" you need to use google.com

Enter "site:cpaptalk.com S9"

BUT you're going to be overwhelmed if you don't add other keywords.

Enter "site:cpaptalk.com S9"
did you know that you don't have to enter "site:" for the search to work?
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Haven't had to for years now.

Or you could just search the forum or click this link even

Habit ...

"site:" fully restricts results to the domain.

If you want even less typing, dropping the ".com" will still work.

This is WEIRD.
Happyd has been a member of the forum since 2016.
Hardly a "new" cpapper.
WTF is going on???

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned it...

But you may want to just ask your friend if they ever used an Ozone Cleaner (such as SoClean - those commercials by Captain Kirk)?

If so, let us know to determine next steps.
If not, there should be no other real issues going forward.
Do you know how many hours are on the S9?

Perhaps joined the forum in 2016 because a family member went on cpap???
Or perhaps initially diagnosed back then but elected to not do anything about it????
People join the forum for any number of reasons that aren't nefarious.

---Except that happyd's past and current comments are all in the in the FIRST PERSON.
I suppose a non-English speaker might have some confusion,
But only in details--not grammar??
Still odd, too odd.

Not exactly...I certainly wouldn't call it the Mission Statement of this website, based upon some of the user base and their attack on new users!
