Daylight time--may become permanent

Post by chunkyfrog » Fri Mar 11, 2022 11:46 am

Yep, it's time to do it again. Sunday morning, March 12,
or whenever you set your clocks.
Since we are helpless to stop it, let's try to be ready to survive the switch.
Sunglasses in the car: beware the glare may catch us unaware--be ready for it.
Ice scrapers--leaving for work/school earlier raises the odds of a foggy windshield.
You will be getting up an hour earlier anyway; + a little extra time to get the car ready.
Time to make breakfast the night before, at least this week.
Stay safe. Stay well.
Hugs all around.
EDIT: And the US House has UNANIMOUSLY passed the Sunshine Protection Act,
which will abolish Standard time--pending Senate and POTUS approval.
The down side: that hour we just lost; will never be regained.
The upside--we can stop resetting our clocks twice a year.
We will only have rush hour equinox half as often as before.
Half as many accident reports correctly stating, "The sun was in my eyes."

I get to wake the cat for a change instead of being nagged awake by him!

I would not count on it.
Cats are devious--you never know when they are only pretending to sleep.

The rest of us have to live with the dumbness of it all.

Bump.
Congress has finally gotten a clue.
Unanimously--both sides of the aisle.
Twice this week!
Weird, huh?

But of course we already did go with only DST in late 1973, but reverted back about 10 months later after many complaints.

This is the OPPOSITE of a clue.

Congress has unanimously sunk to even stupider levels (if it can be believed)
most of those idiots were around back in the 70s when this failed the first time.

Wonder how many families will actually be willing to live with permanent Daylight Savings. Might not be so popular once parents have to send their kids out the door to walk to school or wait for the bus in the dark. Might not be so popular with those of who already struggle with sleep, it is so much harder to wake up and get going when you’re having to start your day in the dark.

Wish they would make standard time rather than Daylight savings time permanent, the AASM believes switching to standard time is best for our circadian rhythm, sleep, and overall health.

fortunately for me, i was living in indiana at that time. (god, i hope i never have to type "fortunately" and "indiana" in the same sentence ever again!) we didn't observe dst, so i missed any foofarah that may have come with it.

but i see pr has supplied some links.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

And I was living just across the river in KY where none of us really cared what time it was.
The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

the joke goes-kentuckians were throwing firecrackers across the ohio river to annoy the residents of indiana. the hoosiers were lighting them and throwing them back.

Standard time was cool.
You could look at shadows on the ground and estimate the time.
With DST, we had to rotate our sundials.

For you youngsters, we tried this in the 70's, and it was unpopular. I expect this will be deja vu all over again.
