New User--Constant Leaks with three different masks

Post by cmh126 » Fri Mar 04, 2022 3:23 pm

I am a brand new CPAP user. I have an Airsense 11 Auto. I am at my wit's end trying to get my mask to seal. I first tried the Dreamwear Full Face (both small, which is what I measured, and medium). I couldn't even get past the myAir setup screen--when I checked mask seal it immediately said a high leak was detected. I then ordered a Resmed F20 and P10. They just arrived and the app immediately says high leak for both. I am lost. I have adjusted the straps multiple times, trying all sorts of levels of tightness. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? My AHI was 41 so I am very motivated to start treatment. Thanks very much.

Check to make sure the water chamber is fully inserted. It has to be snug.
Check to make sure there are no holes in the long hose itself.
Check to make sure no hole in any hoses that come with the mask(s).

Check to see if you have a SD card in the SD card slot.
If you don't have a SD card...get one. Any generic SD card 32 GB or less will work just fine. 2 to 4 GB is plenty big but it's getting hard to find those small capacity cards anymore and often the higher capacity cards are cheaper anyway.

Go here and request the clinical/provider manual for your machine if you don't have one.
It also explains where the SD card slot is if you don't know.
Get it even if you do know because there's information in that manual that isn't in your typical user manual that you may need later.

The reason we need the SD card is to be able to use available software to see if the leak is constant or intermittent with this software. To help try to figure out where the leak is.
Also...this software may come in handy later.

Pugsy, you are an angel!!! It was my water chamber that was apparently not seated correctly! I realize now the machine was incredibly noisy. Not having used a CPAP before, I had no idea that was not normal and that air was escaping. I will be back with OSCAR data in a couple of days!

There was a reason I put the water chamber at the top of the list.
It was my first suspect.

Glad it was that simple of a fix.
