Hitting the "off" button on Airsense 10 doesn't fully turn it off. Anyone else seeing this?

Post by dwhla » Sun Feb 13, 2022 1:00 pm

I have a pretty new airsense 10 machine. When I wake up in the middle of the night or turn it off in the morning via the button, it doesn't fully turn it off. It makes a little puff puff noise and the only way to fully turn it off is to pull out the plug and then plug it back in.

Anyone experience this? Any idea what's going on?

i take it you've never had a resmed machine before?

this is perfectly normal across the resmed line. it's what they call a cool down period. if you leave it on, it eventually shuts off.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Not sure about the puff noise, but ResMed's will run (gently blow) for 30 minutes after use to cool down and blow out residual humidity.

While this is happening there will be a snowflake in the display.

See if it stops after 30 minutes and if there is a corresponding snowflake while blowing.

From the troubleshooting section of the manual.
If someone doesn't have the manual.. https://www.respshop.com/manuals/ResMed ... %20her.pdf

The "cool down" period is no doubt included for a good reason.
Some will remember slide/movie projectors that had a VERY HOT light source,
which had to be slowly cooled to prevent shattering. (At great expense)
Resmed will not tell us why they have a cool-down cycle, but I trust them.
It probably protects the impeller blades from warping and making excessive noise.
I am not a mechanic, but I have watched them on occasion.

Resmed will not tell us why they have a cool-down cycle,
Actually they have told us for years in the machine manuals what the cool down mode was designed to do.

I included a screen shot of the manual page above...

If there is still water in the tank, I don't understand how that can work.
Passover humidification is still humidification.

I don't think that passover humidification really adds enough moisture for it to be that big of a contributor...and besides for that matter how do they know 20 or 30 minutes is enough either. It's going to depend on multiple factors.
Like my 55 degree bedroom vs someone who has bedroom temps like my mom might have at 78 degrees and still bitching about it being too cold.

Personally I put the cool down mode thing in the "fluff" category anyway.
Fluff being stuff anyone promotes as being something that is really great for people and in real life doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Similar to Respironics resistance control thing.
Just fluff to make out like are really thinking of us and giving us something "special".
I take all fluff with a grain of salt.

Fluff it might be.
At least they care a little more than "you-know-who."

Wow this forum is a fount of knowledge. I didn't notice that at all with the old machine, but now that I understand it I think it will bother me less. Thanks so much everyone.

Yup, it's a cool down and totally normal. You want it to happen. Also, though, remember that your machine remains on (long after the cool down finishes) because the modem inside needs to be able to communicate with your DME people and/or sleep tech.
