Can't sleep, now a nose bleed?

Post by bluegrassmandolin » Tue Mar 20, 2007 8:35 am

So it's been 3 weeks of trying with the CPAP. I can sleep some nights but most of the time I'm waking up to adjust the mask again. I have the full face mask and my provider said I was putting it on wrong when I went to get fitted for a new one. She also suggested I try the small instead of the medium. I switched to the small this weekend and it was okay but the last 2 nights I started waking up and adjusting again. Now, this morning I blew my nose and blood was coming out. Not pouring out though. I'm also taking a nasal allergy medicine every morning. So my questions are:

1. Is it normal to wake up so much to adjust or do I keep searching for the "perfect fit" mask?

2. Are the nose bleeds common or is it a matter of meds being wrong still?

I'm just looking for the collective smarts here, my wife is making me go see the doctor too.

Why are you on a full face mask? Did/do you mouth breathe. That's why I use one. There is a ultra mirage full face mask which has a double cushion. It is the mask I use most because I find it most comfortable as do several members of my family. Even that one requires adjustments until you find the right configuration for you.

I don't know that I mouth breathe but my lips don't close all the way so during my sleep test the air shot right out when I tried the nose mask. The mask I have is comfortable it just leaks all the time and I wake up to air blowing on my eyes or brushing my beard. I just can't seem to get it to seal every night.

One other question for you all, would adjusting the humidifier help anything?

I'm no expert here, but it appears that you need to increase the heat on your humidifier. Try it in samll increments,,, we dont want to get into the rainout problem. Also, the Aussie heated hose will heat the air blowing through the hose and should also help with rainout.

Good luck, hope this helps.
