Poll - was your titrated pressure correct the first time?

Post by girlsaylor » Tue Mar 20, 2007 6:44 am

I'm curious, so I'm asking:

When you had your first titration, did the prescribed pressures work for you, or did your doc end up adjusting them to get effective OSA treatment?

correct titration

My titration pressure was set at 9.5 I am finding that anything between 9 and 11 works very well so I use 10 for simplicity sake.

My titration pressure was 15 for severe OSA. I am now using 13.

Mine was also 15 and I've lowered it to 13.......................but that doesn't mean that's where it will stay. I think it takes a long, long time to narrow it down to what's best for you.

My prescribed pressure was 18.
I tried it for about an hour and decided to start with something a little more "reasonable"......so I re-set my machine to 10 and with the software was able to prove that that was much more effective for me. I left it at 10 for about 10 months and then started experimenting with 11 and 12 (and a range of 10 - 15 with my auto). I actually got lower AHI numbers with 10, but by going to 11 or 12, it also killed what residual snoring I had.
The software (and a machine with the data collecting capabilities) is a MUST if you want to determine your optimal therapy.

I was titrated at 8cm H2O. With the Remstar Auto I found an AHI sweet spot at a reported constant pressure of 9.5cm H20. Under it went up, over it went up. I used a manometer to find that my auto was indicating .5 higher than the original Remstar Pro I originally had meaning a reported 9.5 was actually 9 so I guess my real pressure is 9cm H2O. The last time I checked my self-titration was about 4-5 months ago but my AHI is going down so I'll stick with it for now.

I was titrated at 7 cm then my Dr. moved soon moved me to 8 cm as I felt like I was suffocating and my AHI was around 6. Not having an Auto (yet) I moved up and back down the scale a bit, a half cm at a time, under a variety of scenarios (different masks, changing exhale relief and humidity settings, using different pillows, and keeping track of what I ate, exercise levels, and alcohol amounts and times while watching the data regularly. I generally allowed a week or more with each change unless it was pretty evident it was not helpful. I have found that my "sweet spot" is 9.5 cm with my Activa (level 1 Cflex, 1-2 humidity, flaxseed hull pillow, no – little alcohol, etc). My AHI hovers around 0.6 – 0.8 on a monthly average. I am losing some significant weight so I plan on going through a variation of that work soon to see if there is a change.

While that process was interesting and really got me in touch with how I sleep and breathe, an Auto would have made it much easier and faster… I guess I should consider that for the next flex account cycle.

I was tirated at 8, and still didn't feel rested. Better, but not great. I then purchased the auto. I found multiple events at 8. I slowly reset and am now set with APAP of 10-15. The bulk of my time is spent at 11 with a much-improved AHI.

And I wouldn't have done any of that without this site!

Titrated at 6 cms but that was by guess and by gosh since I only slept 42 minutes first titration study and had to do a second wherein I only slept 98 minutes.

Two weeks w/an AutoPAP and my pressure was reset to 8 cms.

"Slept" by their definition for a few minutes over the 2 hr required-thank goodness-I sure didn't feel like I had slept. AND the pressure was right on. Initially on CPAP but got an Auto-lost weight and pressures are down.

I was titrated to 6.5, but raised it gradually myself, watching my numbers on Encore, up to my present 8.5, where I've been, happily, for months. My AHI is consistently under 1.5.

My initial pressure was prescribed at 9 but found that I was snoring over it. Have since gone up to 11, feel great and the hubby has been able to get rid of his ear plugs.

Happy Sleeping,
