Resmed no longer power - no replacement

Post by Lyleg » Thu Aug 26, 2021 11:16 am

Hello everyone
I am a newb and pretty desperate. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea for over 7 years. At the time I was using kaiser who diagnosed me with a home sleep study and provided their CPAP machine resmed. Since then I use apria who replaced the machine some time ago and I switched health insurance and no longer see that kaiser doctor. I have new regular doctor who is aware of the apnea and I have not seen anyone since the CPAP works great.
Yesterday the machine did go on. No power. The power supply lights up and the green light on resmed occasionally flicker. I called apria and they said I need a new sleep study and even then it would take weeks because of the global supply shortage.

I don't have a sleep doctor and my regular doctor is super risk adverse and going to send to one. Im afraid it's going to weeks to months and I can't go without it.

Does anyone have any suggestions ? Should I try paying for one used for now ? These things run pretty high so I don't if I can ..

Please help. I could try replacing the power supply but it seems to light up so I don't seem to think that is the problem.
The model is resmed airsense 19 autoset

AirSense 10?

Make sure everything is plugged in properly. Try a different outlet. Go to a DME and ask them to try a power brick to see if that is your problem.

They are a**hats.

Contact your former sleep doctor's practice and have them transfer your records to your current doctor with a copy to you. This is your legal right. The sleep doctor is bound by this regulation. Your current doctor should be comfortable writing a prescription for a machine based on the treatment plan laid out in your sleep study.

Come back to this thread and let us know how it is going. We can recommend ways to get a machine.

BTW, avoid back-sleeping while you are without a machine. Obstructive sleep apnea tends to be most severe while back-sleeping.

Welcome to the forum!

Avoid Apria whenever possible.
They operate like an abbatoire--you are nothing more than meat to them.

As Chicago Granny says, do get a copy of your old sleep report. (I'm a Kaiser patient, and they just gave it to me when I went in to get my machine -- maybe you have a copy lying around somewhere?)

If your current primary care physician won't take action on the basis of your old report, be aware that dentists and nurse practitioners can also prescribe PAP machines.

Durable Medical Equipment Supplier - in this context, businesses licensed to sell CPAP equipment.

Make sure that connector is pressed fully all the way in - it sounds like it may be loose.

Get copies of your records from your old sleep doc for you - for your continued care - in your possession. Specifically ask for your cpap equipment order often called the prescription here.

This is why a backup cpap is always recommended. You need to have spares of everything needed for you to sleep.

Thanks.

I got a copy of my sleep study from kaiser. I'm at apria branch and they are working on the insurance. I'm not sure I'm walking out with one.

Does anyone have quicker alternatives?

Gentleman here says they have a travel version for 500 dollars. Is that people use for backups.. I haven't traveled since diagnosed.

can you afford to pay out of pocket for your machine? if so, forum member lsat oten has machines for sale. you won't need a prescription if you buy that way.

or secondwind cpap sells used, but you'll need a script there.

the travel machines are stripped down versions of the bigger machines and often quite noisy. what forum veterans use for backup is the regular machines, mainly bought secondhand.

but that's enough about them.

Hello,

So I did not get my CPAP. I have a prescription from the covering doctor (mine is on vacay) but it was not acceptable because it did not have the settings according to APRIA. They now gave me a form that my doctor has to fill out which I don't understand why they did not give this to me in the first place instead of waiting three hours at the branch to find out insurance won't except it. By then, it was after 5pm.

As far as cost, how much do members on the forum sell them for? I might be able to afford it.

Thanks again.
