Hybrid mask question

Post by Scuba_Steve » Sat Mar 17, 2007 10:45 am

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for fitting the hybrid mask? I've tried all the combinations of pillows and cushions but I just can't get a good seal.

What isn't sealing? Is it the pillows part or the mouth part?

I got a better seal by cutting the chin part off.

I still have not conquered all the leaks in the hybrid, and the hardest is to get the right leverage on the top part of the mask to keep the pillows in.

Besides holding in the pillows by putting something elastic across them - strung from the nobs of the top headstraps, I also put a headband that I got from Target that is the right tightness to put under the intake swivel and up over my head. With the right tension - that seems to hold the top part of the mask in a bit, so the pillows don't slide out as easily. Rested Gal's pantyhose solution would work too.

I am still having trouble with leaks out the bottom and haven't yet cut off the chin piece (which I can imagine will be way too hot in the summer) because it seems to be helping to prevent even more leaking.

I am going to see if I can find benzoine tincture. Maybe it will give the mask more holding power. Go to near the end of this post for info:

YES! Follow Roosters link. He has the best fitting instructions I've seen on the hybrid! I followed those instructions (but cutting the pillows apart), and have no trouble with my hybrid.

Just finished second night with Hybrid, and like betty303, am having leak problems with the mask, with the nasal pillows. At top IPAP pressure of 14cm they seem to want to pop out. I had a 1 hour large leak the first night, with a 66l/m average, got it to 5min. large the second night, with a 62l/m average, after some adjustments, I was using the post from rooster as my guide (excellent, BTW ).
My AHI average for the 2 nights was 6.45.
When using my comfortlite2 with nasal pillows and mouth tape, my last AHI was 1.6.
with no large leaks, and a leak average of 36l/m.
Would like to stay with the Hybrid, as I like the concept of it over mouth taping.
Maybe try the panty hose under the swivel fix to try and keep the pillows in tighter.
