using cpap after neck surgery....?

Post by jim.evo » Fri Aug 06, 2021 9:51 am

i'm having neck surgery on one side just below the jaw. i've been using a full face mask after difficulty with the pillows leaking. the problem is that the strap for the full face goes right over the surgical site and i won't be able to use it for a while. i do have some pillows and tried one yesterday and it just doesn't fit as well well - the straps tend to slide and as does the pillow after a while. I've washed my face and head and am using a brand new head piece and while i can get a good fit it just seems to move about easier. It's a Swift FX, medium pillows.

has anyone had any success in this type of situation?

Thanks,

Jim

Make yourself a strap pad for the Swift FX headgear and see if adding the strap pad helps reduce mask movement.
I don't know if you have time to buy one from Padacheek but you can get an idea what I am talking about.

Some fleece wrapped around the side strap and secured with even tape would work.

Finally...I might just not be overly worried about mask movement leak post surgery unless it woke me up a lot.
While maybe not perfect...you won't have to deal with it all that long. Maybe a couple of weeks or so until things heal up...
and then you might even consider making a strap pad for the part of the headgear of the FFM that touches incision area.

Ahh, another person who finds it easier to use a FFM as compared to a nasal-only interface.

There are more of us than many think. :wink:

well i learned about FFM here as my prior nasal was too loud and keeping my wife awake and leaking. the FFM i'm using now, is great!

i just tried the AirFit N30i and my leak rate increased but my AHI was .17. (My AHI average for the past year is .36). So the N30i is an odd fit and I'm now going to try the P30i. The headgear is nice as it does not tough my neck at all.

Thanks again everyone.
