Can a burp count as an event?

Post by cpap450 » Fri Jul 23, 2021 10:46 am

Last night I had the same restful sleep I always do, but my AHI was 1.7 - 2-3x normal, and unusual for when I know I slept well. But I did have a spicy dinner, and, especially right after going to bed, was burping a lot. Can a burp be counted as an event, thus driving up my AHI number?

And just what was your AHI last night? As far as we know, it was 1.0. Or maybe 10.0.

Clarifying what I said, the AHI was 1.7.

Which is 2-3x normal.

Are you concerned about an AHI of 1.7? It's easy to register that in a night of normal, healthy sleep.

But to answer your question, a burp that is 10 seconds or longer might possibly be registered as an event.

Thank goodness, none of my burps would have registered as an event. Whew! And I'm not especially concerned about the AHI number. It's just rare that a number surprises me. 1.7 isn't a big deal, especially since that's about as high a number as I (rarely) ever see.

You can still blame the spicy food; or poltergeists, aliens, or your pet.
Try to indulge earier in the day if it concerns you.

Only if it interrupts your breathing for over 10 seconds.
