My Bleep experience

Post by Truffles » Sun Jun 27, 2021 9:31 pm

Thought I would share my experience with trying Bleep. At first I did not like the pulling on my nose, but now I can ignore it after a few minutes. I know about the hose management tools, but I don't want to add more equipment.

I ran into trouble with discomfort, not-quite-bruising on my upper lip. Sometimes the weight of the hose would pull the connectors against my lip, or side-sleeping would press them against my lip. I stopped using Bleep for about a month because of this, and went back to my nasal cushion set up. However I was getting more irritated by all the straps (chin and headgear) and began not using my machine at all. We all know that's no good.

So, finally, I began padding and taping. I apply the Bleep. I apply somnifix tape to my mouth. Then I add a small strip of flat cotton pad (I cut a piece of a cosmetic pad to size) and tape it under my nose with silicone tape. I add silicone tape to the corners of my mouth because that makes the somnifix work for me (otherwise I get leaks). At this point my face is taped up in a way that took some psychological adjustment, but I sleep okay. I don't wake up due to leaks (usually) or a sore upper lip or an uncomfortable head due to straps.

Sometimes I miss talking to my husband while falling asleep, so I skip the Bleep and all the tape and use the nasal cushion/chin strap when I'm ready to sleep. Sleep apnea equipment really gets in the way of some of my best talking time with him. It's worth it for the health benefits, but I would have thought that we would have found a good work around for pillow talk by now.

Just wanna sympathize: That sucks. Yes the whole setup thing for some of these masks, but especially that one, gets in the way of just going to sleep or any of the other things at bedtime.
I tried the Bleep but gave it up because the first night, it broke a blood vessel on the end of my nose that my dermatologist said isn't going to go away. Afraid of broken blood vessels all over my nose, so went back to TapPap. If you have good straight teeth on top, I recommend TapPap! Easy on and off, no straps at all.

Hey, Surf_rower, thanks for the sympathy. I’ll look into the TapPap. I’ve never heard of it, but if it’s easy and works I’m interested.

Too bad about that blood vessel. Not a lot of fairness in trying to take care of your health only to be on the receiving end of nose graffiti. Hopefully a long and healthy life will be your reward.

I’m just starting with the Bleep, and realize this is changing my bedtime routine with my wife. Am I kissing her good night with the dreamports sticking down from my nose? Tried that, not very romantic. If we’ve been in bed not sleeping (I will use your “talking” example for instance), and I’m tired and want to mask up right then and there - I can’t. I Need to get up, go into the bathroom and look in the mirror and put my mask on.

The TAP PAP is so much better for the “tired and just want to reach for the mask” moment.
But the TAP PAP leads to lip leaks. Quite often large leaks. With the Bleep mask I can tape my mouth shut, as I do when using the Swift FX, and my AHI is negligible on those nights. I’ve never figured out how to get my lips shut with TAP PAP.

So… I’ll see if Bleep can be worked around for marital harmony sake, because I’m getting excellent CPAP results.

If you were affectionate, you would make out with her on the sofa for an hour before you go to bed.
