Hello everyone!!
I have been using Philipps CPAP machines for last 6 years. I have two of them and both are on recall list. As I do not see a clear guidance from Phillips as to when they will fix the issue, I am thinking of moving onto Resmed. I plan to buy this directly instead of going through the Doctor. Two quick questions
1. Can I adjust the pressure by myself or do I need to go to the doctor to adjust the pressure?
2. does it make sense to buy the machine through Doctor's office(where it is more expensive and also need to pay to the doc appt) or buy directly?
Thanks for your help!!!

1....easy to adjust the pressures yourself if you want to.
Explained in the manual
https://www.respshop.com/manuals/ResMed ... %20her.pdf
Just have to know the secret handshake to get to the setup menu...and the handshake is a combination of button pushing.
2...depends on if you want insurance to pay or you are willing to pay out of pocket....and how much your insurance would pay if you use insurance.
And how much you value the "hassle factor"..

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

1. Yes I’ve gone in and changed mine from 4/20 to 5/15
5. I bought mine out of pocket and don’t use insurance anymore. I’ve only been using CPAP therapy for 5 months now and started off with a DME issued Philips DreamStation. I eventually sent that back and decided to buy out of pocket regather than play the DME rental game. Bought a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet from CPAP.com and am very happy with it
I feel like the ResMed is the superior machine after starting off with the Philips. The EPR (called C-Flex on Philips) works better IMO, the DS would almost force me to exhale quicker than I wanted and it also would wheeze. The ResMed works better with the EPR and also seems quieter.
Keep in mind you’ll need a valid doctor’s prescription to buy a new CPAP machine. There’s two members selling low hour ResMed units here though where you wouldn’t need to worry about that I don’t think?

How do I decide what pressure I need to set it? is it same as Phillips Dreamstation?

We look at the software detailed data using OSCAR....but starting with the settings used on the DreamStation is probably an acceptable starting point. Have to start somewhere.
Sometimes though....people don't need quite as much pressure with the ResMed than they needed with the Respironics to get same good results. Different algorithms are involved and it's impossible to know for sure what will happen until the new machine is actually used.
