Hello,
This is my first post to CPAPtalk. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea over 15 years ago. As many of you know it’s a struggle every night. I’ve been a pharmaceutical rep for over 20 years and understand the importance of clinical studies to help healthcare professionals make appropriate decisions for their patients.
I’ve been really struggling for the past year on CPAP therapy so I went to my Sleep Doc. They though it would be appropriate to have another sleep study. The results showed I needed to have my cmH20 pressure increased to 15. Since then I’ve been trying to find a mask that fits well and doesn’t leak. Well with the additional pressure has left me with few good options.
While doing some research online the other night I came across a clinical study from Bringham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. The study was published in, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Volume 199, Issue 10 on November 5, 2018.
The study link is attached here, https://www.atsjournals.org/doi/full/10 ... 808-1493OC
This is a small proof of concept phase II study. The study results were very good and justified doing a larger phase III study. The results of this study could be available soon. The study concludes this month June 2021 but it will take some time for them to get it published in a reputable journal for all of us to see. I’m very hopeful that the phase III study results will be positive and if so it could be a game changer for those of suffering from OSA.
Here is a link to one of the study authors discussing new therapy options. https://youtu.be/TJRzVSW1G_A
The company to follow for the new therapy is Epnimed. Two of the authors of this study are now medical directors at Epnimed.
Let’s pray for great result!
Possible New Treatment for Sleep Apnea
Re: Possible New Treatment for Sleep Apnea
let's don't. or at least, i should say *I* won't.
i've got something to hand that reduces ahi much greater than 50%.
and i don't need to take any pharmaceuticals to accomplish it.

Re: Possible New Treatment for Sleep Apnea
Admittedly I'm not a doctor, but the results I see would still have me wanting to be on a CPAP.
Lots of people do have trouble accommodating to therapy, I'm just not one of those. Just lucky that way...

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
