Opinions on mouth taping?

Post by RagingGinger96 » Wed Jun 09, 2021 6:15 am

Good morning,
I am a mouth breather and consistently wake throughout the night with dry mouth. I have tried chin straps with no luck. So would mouth taping be worth a try? And what kind of tape? Thanks

I wish more people would tape their mouth. Especially during the day, or while I'm watching a movie.

I use Hypafix 2" X 11 Yd Tape on the advice of Stuart at Bleep for mouth taping. Takes a little getting used to but boy does it stick. If I put a dog ear on a corner or two and pull it off slowly, it doesn't hurt my skin. I have also started using small pieces on the sides of my Bleep ports to stop them from blowing out.

I tried mouth taping (Somnifix) but only with a backup battery in line with the machine. If power goes out, you could end up like the bad guy in the movie Thunderball where Bond severs the tube to the diving tank. Seriously, there my be an issue with not getting air supply; whether you would wake up and take off the mask is the unknown.

My AHIs tended to be higher with mouth taping even when leak rate was minimal. Not clear why this was the outcome. Will need to go back and closely look at OSCAR data to see what may be happening.

I use a soft cervical collar (Walgreens) which was working well in Winter and early Spring. Mouth breathing/large leaks however have increased a lot during past two months. My hunch is it has something to do with restricted nasal flow. May be climate related as I live an area of the country where air quality is not great, and there is high humidity and damp conditions.

you don't say which mask you use. not sure if this will work with a full face-

this is what i use in conjunction with a firm foam cervical collar. as mention, that is available at drugstores in the home care section. usually around ten bucks. or here is the one i get from amazon-

i use the scunci rig in the first link with the p10 nasal pillow mask.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
