deja vu?
deja vu?
I have been really tired since Last December. My neurologist left the state and no one told me. I have a fantastic but flimsy elastic mask and a Dream Station APAP. My settings are ramp 8-12, then 12-20, Usually my 90% pressure hangs around 16ish but occasionally is as high as 19. My AHI falls between 0 and 0.3. I was initially diagnosed as having UARS in 2004 but within 2 years my pressure went from 8 to 17. I think this has to do with developing hypothyroidism.
By December I was 3 months over due for a mask and filter change. I started sleeping an extra hour a day and had no get up and go. After 5 more months with no help from my dr I bought a new mask and filter. I thought it would fix everything but now the pressure in my machine isn't rising above 13.0.
I'm using a friends computer with Linux and was told Oscar won't work the version she has. I have access to a public computer with windows 7, any chance Oscar can work with that? I am not a tech brain.Sleep Team told my sleep is great as my AHI was 0.8.
I have 3 hypothesis:
I am living in a temp place with a hard as hell mattress that has left me unable to sleep on my back, I could be waking up so many times in pain that I don't get deep sleep. ( I can see on my machine my 30 day pressure is 15.6). I've been having back trouble since Jan 6th.
I did something wrong when I put the new filter in, I replaced the blue one with a purple one. Well the stuck pressure seemed to start when I changed the filter.
The mass of chemical fumes going thru my machine has damaged it somehow. My next door roommate seems to have an addiction to perfume and hairspray. I am suffering from pain in my sinuses and nose from this stuff. Its an old house, I have taped over all the electrical sockets but one. That helped a bit. She leaves at unpredictable times, I get up at 5 now but still get sprayed while sleeping at times. I've had to wash my cpap in the middle of the night because the nose piece reeks of hair spray. This has caused a reocurrence of asthma and chemical sensitivity symptoms that disappeared during Covid. My last cpap happened to bit the dust when chemicals were going through my cpap and I developed asthma and chemical sensitivity.
Thank you for reading all this. What is the logical next step?

Dumb question, but can you not move? Or at least ask the other girl to e.g. spray etc. on the far side of her place - explain things to her and she might understand.
When you said 3 mos overdue for a mask change - according to your DME? Some of us have masks much, much longer than that - you don't have to take what they push on you (to get the insce money) as long as you clean the cushion e.g. with baby wipes daily and wash in mild soap and warm water weekly. Filters can be changed more often than you're doing and if you get the white ones made for allergens (they fit behind the others) they may help with the perfume, etc.
Are you taking anything for the thyroid problem? It could interfere with Cpap but there also may be ways to deal with that.
You don't want to put your personal stuff on public computers. Someone else here can advise better than me though re the tech stuff.
Why are you trying to sleep on your back - it provokes a lot more apneas - whatever they asked you to do when testing (to get a worst case scenario probably).
And please stay in this thread for future posts, questions, etc.

Re: deja vu?
OSCAR will work on Windows 7 computers.
Other than the serial number of the machine no personal information is in OSCAR unless you use your real name when creating the profile.
I use Pugsy for my profile name. No one knows or cares about my serial number for my machine.
Will the public computer let you install software on it though?
How do you know it is stuck on 13 if you can't see the detailed data from the pressure graphs?

This is what is called a 90% number and all that means is that you were AT OR BELOW that number for 90% of the night.
How do you know it is stuck on 13 if you can't see the detailed data from the pressure graphs?

Re: deja vu?
Hi Julie,
Thank you for responding.
I am on a list to get into an apartment, so I'm doing transitional housing which is 8 people with small rooms in a big house. Luckily it's only the one person hat is difficult. The manager has spoken to her many times, after a few days the spraying resumes.
My mask is airfit p10 for her, it is literally 2 elastic bands which start out crazy tight but the elastic stretches out, after 3 months I have to use clips to shorten the bands. After 6 month I have significant leaking up to 37% of the time. I think that doesn't work well with the APAP algorithm. The leak noise would awaken me and I thought the leakage was causing my issues. I had the same mask for 14 months.
My thyroid is pretty stable at this point, but for the first 2 years the medications and tests lagged behind the symptoms.
My apnea symptoms may be different from typical. At first my AHI was only 6, it was only 2.5 years ago that it reached 15. I have a narrow airway and I awaken rather than having breathing events. It keeps me from getting into stage 3 or 4 sleep and it delays REM sleep. My symptoms don't start until I've been sleeping 4 hours. The techs didn't find positional apnea for me.
At this point i'm unclear how to solve the problem. Unfortunately I changed my medical plan, I have an internist that's trying to be a pro in everything.
Tnanks again!

Re: deja vu?
Pugsy thank you for the Windows 7 info. I'm hoping it will let me download the program.
You make a good point about the numbers, I don't know, It just seems odd that its the same exact number every nap, break in sleeping and for the overall night. Hopefully I can get the data soon. I recently put on enough weight that I'm afraid to look at the scale, it seemed unlikely that the pressure would go down in that case.
I'll try to post the graphs...

Re: deja vu?
My Resmed Autoset 10 for her has a default that shows the information as 1 month in the sleep report..
This happens anytime it has been unplugged.
I change the setting to 1 day to see the daily numbers.

Re: deja vu?
In case you were't aware, after washing the p10 mask it will shrink back to original size.
When you reach the point where it won't shrink back enough, you don't need to replace the whole mask, you can just replace the strap. And instead of ordering a p10 strap, get an N30 strap. They have a built in adjustable clip, and fit the p10 mask.

dogslobber I noticed right off you have a much nicer clip than I have. Is there any special technique, hot water or something to get it to shrink? I hate the way the mask tears up my hair when the mask gets loose.

Re: deja vu?
I got my data on Oscar!!!!!
What kind of data should I show? I'm really puzzled by the pressure changes. I noticed my machine from Apap to Cflex somewhere along the line, Cflex3. It seems like I'm experiencing more flow limitation then apnea.

Re: deja vu?
Exactly which model Respironics machine do you have.
I see now that you have added the Remstar Plus cpap machine with CFlex into your signature line.
That model machine isn't compatible with OSCAR and doesn't even use a SD card.
Do you see the model number or exact name somewhere on your machine?
It also doesn't report 90% pressures since it uses a fixed pressure only.
Are you sure it is the "Plus" model?

Thanks Pugsy. As I look through daily data I can see someone is changing my maximum pressure daily. I've had the worst insomnia ever. grrrr
