Odd Oscar Numbers

Post by chaswalters » Thu May 06, 2021 7:21 am

I thought I had my "rainout" issues fixed, but obviously I need to do more tweaking. What I dont understand is that Oscar is showing AHI's during the time I was fooling with my mask. When I felt moisture (times circled), I disconnected hose from mask, let it keep blowing to rid it of excess water, wiped down my mask and tried to get it to re-seal. (See times circled).
During that time, when I was awake, Oscar showed a bunch of AHI's. But I was awake during those times.

Could that be from me letting the machine run against no back-pressure?

The data comes from the machine. OSCAR is only reporting the data.

The machines are good at detecting breathing and events when the user is sleeping. When the user is awake, the data is NOT good.

The machine doesn't know awake from asleep.
It only measures air flow.
Air flow or breathing while awake is very irregular when compared to asleep breathing and the machine is easily fooled. It can and will flag false positives. If you aren't asleep they aren't real and just have to be ignored.

Thank you both! My problems started when I decided to "tweak" the settings to deal with dry mouth. Xylimints have helped a great deal. I think I will go back to "auto" and assume the respiratory therapist might be a bit more knowledgeable than me.

By all means, go with the assumption that the respiratory therapist is a bit more knowledgeable than you. But it would be a mistake to assume they are more knowable than Pugsy or CG.
