My Ahi Average is about 1.5-2, what adjustments should I make?

Post by SLafeer » Thu Apr 22, 2021 1:20 pm

Hello everyone,

I've been using the Resmed for Her with the Resmed P10 with GREAT success in the past 3 months or so. I have SEVERE OSA. Im averaging between 1.5-2.25 in terms of AHI. I want to know if theres anyway to get better results (below 1) by adjusting the machine.

I've attached the statistics below - any help/advice is appreciated! Thank you.

Hello everyone,
welcome to the zoo!

before you start getting advice, my question to you is..how are you sleeping?

are you waking up refreshed or no?

there is more to treating sleep apnea than getting low numbers.

To be quite honest, I sleep pretty well! I'm used to sleeping with the mask and I barely notice myself waking up. NO MORE DAYTIME FATIGUE! That was a huge issue for me.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd say I feel like a 9/10 during the day. Perhaps I should ignore the numbers.

that's VERY good to hear!

if it ain't broke, don't fix it. but DO keep us in mind if things start to go badly.

good luck!!

At the risk of getting flamed here - I will let you know that it is possible to get your AHI <1.

My long standing AHI is .2 - it hasn't been above 1 in many years but I do remember that I can feel the difference if it gets close. So yea that little bit does make a difference.

Just went to the doc on Tue. and she claims I am her best patient. I go only so insurance will pay for my supplies - nothing more.

So don't give up.

If you don't already, try some stretches, focus on traps, jaw/suboccipitals and hips . Also look at an adductor stretch .

Traps, just a side tilt is fine. For hips, a 90 90 hip stretch. For suboccipitals/jaw, maybe look at a chin tuck. Adductors, there are many options.

Don't overdo the stretching, start with just enough stretch to feel tension, wait 15 secs for release . Can build up to two sets after a week or so.

You may find that makes the difference, especially if you sit at a desk all day.
