Why do I grit my teeth with CPAP ?

Sometimes I wake up straight after I have clearly gritted my teeth together sharply and I am shocked when I realise my teeth haven't broken as it is a horrible sensation to wake up to. It is like my jaw and teeth are intensely tensed for some reason. This doesn't happen without CPAP and I seem to only wake up once a night with this. I use an AirFit P10 with 7 to 13 on AutoCPAP scale. Any ideas ? As I don't know why CPAP would cause this. Thanks.

Try a bite guard.
Hopefully, you will become less tense as you get used to cpap.

he's been here since 2015 so i hope he's used to cpap by now.

Maybe there is a recent stressor-something like we have here.

Actually, I started cpap in 2015 and stopped after about 3 months and kept the cpap in storage until 2 weeks ago So there has been a long break between using it. The teeth issue has only started since this time round, odd though that it only happens when I am using cpap, not without, strange.

Could it be that you are reaching a deeper level of sleep w/cpap?
Get a bite guard from the sporting goods section of your favorite store or Amazon.

I had 5 sleep studies before it was reported I was grinding my teeth.
My sleep doc said they have no idea what causes it.

I've always done some grinding or clenching, but I think it's worse with PAP. As far as I can tell, the reason is that I'm trying to find a stable position for my lower jaw and tongue so that I can avoid mouth leaks and aerophagia. Unfortunately, a soft cervical collar doesn't really help, and I've found straps really uncomfortable.

I really should try a mouth-guard again. The last time I used one, I chewed it up!

I’ve found that I can’t use a sleep guard with my CPAP. I think I could with a full face mask but I’m too claustrophobic to even try one. I tried nasal mask, get pillows and nasal cushion. Each of them sit exactly where my night guard sits on my upper teeth. I’ve discontinued use of the night guard until I see dentist in a couple of weeks. Maybe if I had one that sits on bottom teeth, it’ll work.
