Who Has Used or Is Using The Vista Nasal Mask??

Post by Slinky » Tue Mar 13, 2007 9:42 am

Has anyone used the Vista mask? A Resmed mask, I "think". My 02 DME was out today w/several masks for me to try. I LOVED the Vista - but couldn't quite eliminate the leaks around the eyes. Too broad on the bridge of the nose.

I never thought to ask, and the DME didn't mention if the Vista comes in "sizes" or if they had a "pediatric Vista". He left an Activa and a ComfortGel for me to try for a couple of nights since I was having problems deciding between the two. Sheesh! What a difference from the sheister xPAP DME I've been using!!!!

Hi Slinky
My RT uses the Vista and she's had great success with it for 3years. I think she mentioned to me that ResMed is going to discontinue it, as she thought she might order more than one. She had no complaints about the 'different' looking head gear!
I started out in Jan. with an UMII nasal mask and after about a month or so my RT gave me a Comfort Gel petite and a Profile Lite small to try. I have to say that the CG petite is a much better fit and more comfortable that the UM. I have less leaks and face marks. I set my Elite on standard setting if I'm not using the UM. If ResMed had a small or pediatric UM I am sure I would be using it. That being said is probably the reason I lean towards the CG petite for comfort reasons.

I see Vista here: No small that I can see, however.

I have never used the vista, however I do use the activa. In my opinion it has few drawbacks. The mask fits lose and as such is very comfortable. When adjusted properly, it seals about as good as anything out there and it does not leak. Also you can sleep on your side without a problem. The only negative I have heard is you cannot watch tv with it on. It's currently my favorite. Good luck on your quest.

I tried the Vista and suffered from upper nose leaks. The only way I could counter it was tighten the mask down. When I did that the hard plastic part of the mask rubbed agaisnt the tip of my nose. Now I used the large and that may not be an issue for you.

I tried the Vista a long time ago. Couldn't stop tiny leaks from springing out up toward my eyes. Most aggravating -- and not good for the eyes!

Same as Mike mentioned in his experience with it, I'd have had to tighten the mask down one way or another too painfully to have slept comfortably. Every mask seems to work for some people. Vista sure didn't for me.

Thanks, everyone. I'm sure disappointed about the Vista. *sigh* I have heard tho that there is a pediatric mask called the "Kidsta" that is like the Vista.

RG, I asked about the Twilight and he doesn't have one but said he would order one to have on hand.

I have one sitting in my dud drawer, PM me I'll sell it to you cheap. But I'll fore warn you:

1. It is noisy, uses same elbow system as the Activa, same leader hose but for some reason much more noisy than the Activa.
2. Has very poor air delivery; meaning it blows cold air directly on your nose like a 150mph leaf blower, it doesn't "diffuse" the incoming air so it is less annoying. Even the activa is better at this using same interchangable elbow system.
3. Headgear is hard plastic, has to be the worst headgear of any interface I have ever used, the hard plastic digs into your ear lobes.

I tried it for 3-4 nights, then in the dud drawer it went.

Thanks, SnoreDog.

By the way: I did find this Resmed News Release on the "Kidsta":

San Diego, CA - May 3, 2006

The Mirage Kidsta is based on ResMed's high-quality Mirage(tm) platform, combining dual-wall cushion technology and user-friendly design for a comfortable mask that is easy to use, effective and unobtrusive.

"We have already been supporting pediatric patients with the Mirage Kidsta in Canada and Latin America; ... " The Mirage Kidsta has been commercially available in Europe since 2004. It has been used to treat patients in Germany, France, the UK and other countries.
