Airsense problem
Airsense problem
I've got an airsense 10 auto with an f20 mask. I'm a 65yo male on therapy for a year now. I sure hope it's keeping me from dying in my sleep, 'cause I can't see anything else it's doing for me.
Now, about 3 days ago, I woke up with an awful mask leak. I tightened it up and it got worse. I then realized the machine was blowing wide open. I shut it down and restarted and all was fine, but it's been doing this every night since. From the reading I've been doing, there's a lot of experience here.
So, saying that...my starting ahi was 21. Now it's running between 1.3 to 4, so it must be helping.

Re: Airsense problem
I bet it is helping! Could you explain what you mean by "blowing wide open"? Is it that the pressure has gone way up? Or something else?

Re: Airsense problem
What I mean is it pumps enough air that I can't exhale without taking the mask off.
I did find the right words that a Google search came up with the symptoms of the malfunction. Now I just have to troubleshoot till I come to the right solution. More research.
Thanks

Re: Airsense problem
More likely a panic attack, as no cpap is capable of pushing enough air to blow up a balloon.
Of course, pushing your way through a panic attack may require a bit of "mother's little helper".

Re: Airsense problem
So...I took the mask off, shut the machine down, put the mask back on, restarted the machine and went back to sleep. No, not a panic attack! I DON'T PANIC!
I'll figure it out. Never mind.

Re: Airsense problem
Hey Mike
I have the same machine. I have had Sleep Apnea since prior to 1995, just got a cpap in 2000. At one point I was getting a lot of blow by on my mask and tightened it down. Had more problems. By the way, I am a 71 year old male.
I went to my cpap store with the mask, they showed me on a machine there how to properly set the mask, it has to be lose enough to flex with the breathing.
Did you buy it on line or from a store? Can you take it back to the store to have it tested?
The machine I have now I bought on line ( saved about $13000.00) the only problem with that is poor support also you have to send your machine and they do not provide a replacement while yours is gone.. The local stores will not talk to me. But thats my problem.
Your air Sense should have a 2 or 3 years warranty, contact who ever supplied it and start the testing process as what ever your machine is doing is not right, nothing is right if it does not help you sleep.
I have had a few situations over the years where the power has gone off or something else happens and I wake up gasping. It is not a good thing. The adrenaline is flowing, takes an hour or so to get back to sleep.
I have a surprising number of friends who use cpap's, we all agree, sleep is much better with it.
Hang in there and work through it. If you want to contact me message me from this site as I do not come on here often.
Have you read your SD card?
There is a program that allows you to read it on your computer.
Take care

Have you checked your data for that night in OSCAR? Was there a pressure spike?Cheepbeer wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 7:40 amI've got an airsense 10 auto with an f20 mask. Re: Airsense problem
Hey Mike
If you are sleeping through the night without the machine, why do you have it? I presume that you were in a sleep lab and that your machine is set to the level that the doctor determined based on the study the did on you. My level required is 12, I have my machine set to ramp up starting at 5, once I am sleeping it works its way up and delivers what I need, . the settings 0n mine are set for 5 to 15. so If I am having a bad night it will go up to 15.
Resmed makes it very clear that they do not want to talk to the end users, that is why I suggested you go to the seller.
After years of falling asleep if I was not talking or moving, try driving !. It took me 5 years to get into a sleep lab. I was so bad I would fall asleep at a traffic light. I did a lot of traveling for business, missed flights due to sleeping, had many cops pull me over because I fell asleep at a light and make me blow and do the field test.
When you do not use your machine for many days, do you nodd off easily? I am not a doctor, just trying to understand how you can sleep without it. I know I cannot, I think I can but I then cannot stay awake, watch TV, forget it.
I signed up for MYair and now get reports on my sleep onmy phone. It tells me how many stops I had per hour during the night and if my mask was leaking, I do not use Oscar anymore.

If your settings are 5/15 your ramp is useless...it should be OFF.chainsaw161 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 8:41 amHey Mike

Re: Airsense problem
Well, that just goes to show you how much you do not know, it does work and I enjoy it. It would not have the function if it did not work. The machine will deliver to 15 if needed.
Maybe I did not state it as precisely as you would like.
The ramp is set to 10 minutes. The pressure is set to 5 and tops out at 15 if my body requires it.\Thanks for pointing out my error in explanation.
I wore out one airsense 10 and am on my second one.

Ramp is only the time it takes to get to the minimum pressure setting.
Ramp default starts at 4 cm...in your case it takes 10 minutes to get to 5 cm and then ramp ends and the auto adjusting part takes over.
Most people won't need ramp at a 5 cm minimum pressure setting but if you like it...more power to you
but you need to understand what it does and doesn't do. It has zero affect on the 15 cm max setting.
It takes 10 minutes to go from 4 cm to 5 cm...big whoopie.
Now if it took 10 minutes to get to a 12 cm minimum...might be more useful but your setting isn't 12...it's 5 minimum.

The number of machines you have used means nothing....You don't understand ramp.... By the way...I am on my 4th machine.chainsaw161 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 10:48 amWell, that just goes to show you how much you do not know, it does work and I enjoy it.
