Oscar Tutorial

Post by dp135 » Sat Dec 19, 2020 1:44 pm

Is there a tutorial anywhere that really explains Oscar readings? Or You Tube videos anyone can recommend. I keep trying to make sense of it but am lost.

About me....I've always snored and been a toss and turner person in bed. AS a RN, I always suspected I had OSA. In the past few years it got worse and something I no longer could ignore.

My husband was very ill and I was exhausted, but how I felt it was beyond just "stress" - I have always has AM headaches and they were getting really severe in 2018/19
I went for a sleep consultation and had an in lab study. I initially did not want CPAP as my husband was ill and I felt I might not hear him in the night if he needed me.

I wore an oral appliance for about a year but the sleep specialist dentist could never get it right and I hated how it felt. My husband died in April of 2019 and that along with a few dental caps popping off and severe headaches and extreme exhaustion, I gave up.

I started CPAP in Sept 2020 - I contacted my sleep doctor and we decided to try CPAP. tried a Phillips full face Dream wear - felt a bit claustrophobic, so I switched to a nasal cushion and Somnifix tape. I just cannot get things right. I feel that it will be my solution if I can get things set. The right settings or mask or pressure - something has to work.

I like the CPAP - I am totally compliant and committed to using it no matter what. I only missed using it once due to an unexpected family emergency that ended up an overnighter and I did not have the machine early on. Now I always pack it.

I may do another in lab with CPAP on if it comes to that.

I am just desperate to figure this out. I had a night once where I woke up the next day and felt amazing - like my old self - energized and happy. So I know it is possible. I wish I had documented the date so I could look at Oscar - trying to figure it out and now have started to keep a diary in case it ever happens again.

So after that long winded tale;=) Can anyone point me to any educational things to help me understand this amazing software?

Dorothy

Dorothy, I'm sorry for your loss.

See whether this is of some help:

Also, feel free to post a chart so we can take a look and comment if anything jumps out at us.

Little chore: could you fill out your profile with your machine and mask information?
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

I'll look again if I missed anything.

Off to read and figure out the best way to post data. I figured out that span where I reported I felt good.

I woke up and had coffee and then fell back asleep for 4 hrs - no CPAP - just passed out on couch as I was so exhausted. I hope that helps. Thank you - if I am doing anything incorrectly, please let me know.
