Airfit N30i

Post by RichieC » Tue Sep 01, 2020 6:59 pm

Couldn’t handle a ffm and just switched to a airfit N30i nasal mask. But the package said to use pillow setting for the mask type on my CPAP machine, I have a Phillips dream station and it doesn’t have a pillow setting. All I have is X1 through X5, any suggestions?

Isn’t that annoying?! What I’ve read in other threads is just to play around with those numbered settings to find what feels best, then notice whether your AHI is still OK. Apparently there isn’t a huge difference among those numbers settings.

Just set the resistance setting to 0. That is what we are told by Respironics to do when using a non Respironics mask.
It's not a critical setting anyway.
I actually did an experiment some years ago and used all the settings including off (that's what the 0 setting is) and I couldn't feel any difference in the air movement and it didn't change the leak numbers at all.

I think it's a gimmick to get people to buy masks from the machine vendor to be "compatible".

Yeah, that's what my gut tells me as well. Officially it is supposed to do some really big and important because of the inherent resistance in the different masks...but they never actually said what it did that made it better or why it was "important".
I call it "fluff"...and roll my eyes...and rolled them even more once I tested out all the settings and I couldn't feel any difference, leak numbers didn't change...AHI didn't change...
I couldn't tell it did a damn thing. Maybe it does do something but it sure wasn't anything I could see or feel and that makes it a non critical setting in my book and even Respironics says turn it off when not using a Respironics mask.
