CPAP newb am I mouthbreathing?

Post by mastaCpappy » Fri Aug 14, 2020 6:09 am

am i mouthbreathing? And.. is this large leak big enough so the data is inaccurate? Trying to figure out why i wake up at the same time every night.
I fell asleep around 1:30am

I don't think you're mouth breathing. The leaking starts when the machine starts, and continues until it ends. Almost certainly at the beginning and end you would gave been awake and aware enough not to be mouth breathing.

Regarding accuracy, on ResMeds the documented threshold is 24L/minute. Don't think of it as, at 24L/m it becomes inaccurate. Instead thinking of it as becoming increasingly unreliable. Your average is about 34, not wildly off.

Get a different mask to try. If you look at your leak line the base line is quite high to start with and is never at 0.0 for some reason and it should be.

been seeing how loose i could wear it. It's really comfortable like this, but if it's not providing effective treatment I'll tighten it up.

It seems that as soon as my respiration becomes variable and increases, i wake up within 5-10 minutes. I assume this must be transitioning to deep sleep. I had RERA's the last 2 nights, but this time i see no apnea here. Perhaps it went undetected due to the Large leak.

Yes, that is very likely.

RERAs being flagged are a symptom of waking up or having an arousal and NOT the cause of the arousal or waking up.
When we see RERA flagged all it means is the breathing looks like the breathing of someone who has had an awakening from some sort of airway related issue. It is NOT in itself a flagged airway event like OA or hyponea might be.
