OT: missing red star

Post by zonker » Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:03 pm

as you may (or may not) know, when one posts a response in a thread, one is shown a little red star directly to the left of the thread title.

however, i've noticed that this little red star doesn't ALWAYS appear after i've posted in a thread.

has this happened to anyone else?

or does the forum hate me?

(NOTE: pick one answer or the other, not both!)
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

You asked the same question last year.

Same answer.

The red star is only present on a topic you took part in, and the topic started doesnt have an avatar set.

Therefore the forum default avatar is used, which may be altered with the red star.

this post is in regards to how the forum tracks new replies. in particular, how it tracks my new replies.

as we know, when we make a reply to a thread, we can see that immediately if we refresh our screens. obviously, we see ourselves as the last poster. (duh!) but also, the forum indicates we've posted in the thread by putting a read star where the avatar of the original poster sits.

this is very handy after i've completed a session, then go about my business, come back on at a later time and say "oh yeah, i want to see how that went." and i'll check those threads.

well, something started happening around monday of this week. sometimes, i would make a post in response. but it wouldn't show up with a red star. at first, i blamed this, somehow, on zombie threads that came back to life. in fact, in some cases, i HAD replied, but it didn't show a red star. but i hadn't taken any screen shots so i didn't have any of my work to show.

now, i've noticed something some what different-

Screenshot (3).png

i've replied to several today in the same session. but the only time a red star shows is when there is NO avatar present. i honestly can't say if this happened before or if it started monday or ???

has this always been the case and i'm just now noticing it because i'm more alert to the red stars?

You must ask again next year because I also had forgotten what the stars were for and I am sure that by next year....it will be forgotten again.

Stars don't really mean anything to me.
In school, they gave them to EVERYBODY--even those who just "showed up".
The smart kids already knew when they were doing all right.

I hear that someone in another forum once tried to hate Zonker. It didn't work out. So I recommend that nobody try it here.

I can't bring myself to look at anything similar to the Red Star of the Solar Federation ever since Mr. Peart died.
