my cpap machine issues

Post by OhioJASON » Tue Jun 16, 2020 10:16 pm

QUESTION
I BEEN USING A CPAP MACHINE FOR YRS
LATELY EVERYTIME I TURN IT ON AT NIGHT THE HOSE POURS OUT WATER BEFORE PUTTING ON THE MASK ITSELF.
I CAN SEE IT WATER BEADS MED SIZE ONES COME OUT OF THE MACHINE AND FLOW WITH THE AIR TO END OF THE HOSE. I DISCONNECT THE MASK PART SO DOESNT GET WET. BUT WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? IN OHIO USA. ANY ONE HAVE AN ANSWER??

QUESTION #2

WHEN MASK IS FINALLY ON WHY DO I HEAR THE AIR LOUDLY GOING THRU THE HOLES IN THE MASK? IF I RUB HOLES WITH BLANKET IT USSALLY STOPS FOR A FEW MINS. EVEN WITH A NEW MASK THIS HAPPENS

WHY???

WELCOME TO THE FORUM! But please don't SHOUT.

Can you give us some details that might help us help you, such as make and model of machine, how old it is, whether you're using a heated hose, what type of mask you're using. You might be experiencing a phenomenon known as "rainout" where water condenses in the hose - but we can't be sure without the details. You mention that the water seems to be coming direct from the humidifier into the hose - it's not over-filled, is it?

If when you exhale, the 'air' (CO2) has nowhere to go - thru those tiny holes that vent it - you'd rebreathe it, and you don't want to do that. Stop rubbing anything on them - potentially blocking - and be careful about covering them with bedding, etc. If the noise has recently become a lot louder than usual, then you might have a problem, but possibly others would have answers to it that I don't.

And have you recently located the machine to a shelf etc. that's above your head? Might explain why water runs into the mask instead of back to the machine.

This happens right away? Like the moment the machine turns on? Then either you are overfilling the humidifier or perhaps it is not on a flat, level surface. My Resmed system is much more sensitive to this than my Respironics system One was. I actually slightly under fill for this reason.

Please fill out your profile. For instance, right now I find myself wondering what you have in the way of a system....

You have been using a CPAP for years and you don't know that the holes are to let the carbon dioxide from your exhale escape? Without the holes you would inhale CO2. Don't cover the holes.

If the noise stops after awhile, it could still be the water issue. Rubbing the holes with the blanket would be soaking up the water.

I don't see him saying he is blocking the holes.
