Nose taping

Post by crave303 » Thu Jun 11, 2020 5:27 am

There are many threads about and even products for mouth taping.

But what about nose taping?

Do you think this would be dangerous? Everyone has a cold sometimes and your body automatically goes into mouth breathing mode so surely it can't be that bad? No-one dies from undiagnosed/untreated sleep apnea if they get a cold after all.

My thinking would be to force mouth breathing and maybe this could improve sleep quality on people with apneas caused by nasal defects.

There's a lot of documented evidence as to why Mother Nature intended us to breathe through our nose for optimal benefits.

IMHO one of the stupidest ideas I have heard of and I have heard a lot of stupid ideas.
Number one basis for that is the fact that apneas aren't caused by nasal defects. Apneas are caused by problems in the airway below the nasal cavity. People who have chronic nasal congestion from say bad allergies and they mouth breathe out of necessity still can end up with OSA and need cpap pressures to hold the airway open. Mouth breathing doesn't prevent OSA.

Nose breathing is best, because it warms and filters incoming air like the mouth cannot.
Medical rhinoplasties are performed to improve airflow very regularly.
Insurance may even cover them.
Do consider it.
The only tape I have ever used on my nose is a Breathe Right strip--to open up the passages.
Question: Do you drink bleach too?

speaking on this topic, this was a really nice Fresh Air segment on nose breathing over mouth breathing. I've cognizant of my own breathing habits since listening.

Speaking of bad advice--since vapo rub is effective against toenail fungus, guess what?
---The same fungus causes JOCK ITCH!
By the way, don't do that!

Nasal breathing is better for your health than mouth breathing. Mouth breathing has been shown to increase sleep arousal's in comparison. I wear a FFM, so no matter what happens, I still breathe. It's a comfortable mask though. I like breathing .
