Can So Clean sanitize a medical face mask, if it shorts out and burns the mask up. The dirt will still be there though! Jim

There are no actual tests to evaluate whether or not that is possible.

The bullfrog sprayed hand sanitizer on his face mask--then put it on before it dried.
That doesn't work either.
Reusable cloth masks should be machine washed on HOT.
Do that.
Do NOT buy a Soclean--that would be STUPID.

I've been flauting the "DO NOT MICROWAVE YOUR MASKS!" edict by microwaving my cloth masks, in a baggie, with a little water, which turns to steam, and keeps anything bad (like bursting into flames) from happening.

It's certainly not a 'set it and forget it' thing, and can't be used if there are metal nose strips in the mask.

I have been making masks with a removable nose strip--either a big paper clip or a bobby pin.
I believe I may try the microwave--with a wee bit of vodka in the water.
Call the fire department.

My suggestion for this point in time is not to make any unproven claims anywhere about any device being effective against the virus if you enjoy living your life free of a visit from the feds.

Hi Madge,

Welcome!
Here is a recent previous thread on this forum that may shed some light on the subject.
Long-story short, most of us agree this product is bogus, probably even harmful.
It's a great question though.

Hoping you're getting good sleep therapy!

Chris

Define "medical face mask"

If you're talking about N95 masks, they are not made to be reused.

If you're talking about cloth masks, simply wash them.

I don't think that putting flammable liquids in the microwave is the best of ideas, even a 'wee bit'.

. . . N95 masks . . . are not made to be reused.
True, that.

But desperate times . . .
CDC dudes (last reviewed: April 9, 2020) wrote:FFR decontamination and reuse may need to be considered as a crisis capacity strategy to ensure continued availability. Based on the limited research available, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation, vaporous hydrogen peroxide, and moist heat showed the most promise as potential methods to decontaminate FFRs. This document summarizes research about decontamination of FFRs before reuse.--

Not that I personally consider the CDC to have all that great of a reputation these days for always making the best calls on personal-safety issues for professionals OR for the public, but I thought the "info," speculative and three weeks old as it is, relevant to the thread, nevertheless, since it is included in their links about N95s.
