Which Is Now Best In BiPAP

Post by vze2363v » Thu Apr 30, 2020 6:46 pm

A couple of years ago, I posted here seeking suggestions for the best BiPAP machine since I got mine in 1997 or something like that. At the time all my insurance covered was some ratty Chinese knock-off and I was working with my family to try and find a way to get a good one. Unfortunately, my car broke down and that was that. Since it's now 2 years later I don't know if the same suggestions apply and I don't think I'm having the problems I was apparently having two years ago. My AHI has gone up a little though so I'm a bit concerned about that.

I've attached two files from SleepyHead. Unfortunately, I don't have data later than 04-15-2020 because I forgot I had SleepyHead and forgot to download the info from my SD card causing it to overwrite itself. I tried to repair the files, but it didn't work.

I'm over the insurance company. They haven't had to pay for anything for me for about 2 years so they made a pretty penny off the monthly payments to them. I don't have a problem becoming an issue if they try to fight me on this. Especially since the so-called provider they chose (cheapest) has ended delivery or shipping to customers which isn't going to fly with me. I'm already on my last nerve. Also, my sleep doctor passed away since I saw him last and no one wants to see anyone now, much less get a sleep study done.

Could anyone help me with BiPAP machine suggestions please? I prefer the tank without the heated hose. I don't know how that works, but the machine I currently have just has a tank for water that it heats - nothing fancy.

Thanks to anyone who can help me figure this out.

Nothing's changed as far as bilevel machines in the last two years. (BiPAP™ is a trademark (marketing term) used only by Philips Respironics, even though it's often used generically, like 'xerox' or 'kleenex' you won't find that wording on any other manufacturers machines)

Sleepyhead, however, is dead, killed off by it's creator. The new thing is Oscar, which is a fork, and continuing development. link in my sig to get a copy.

Any 's' bilevel will do what you've got now, but if I were going to get one, I'd get an auto, and if I were going to get an auto, I'd either get a nice, used Resmed S9 VPAP Auto, or the newer model Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto. they just work better than Respironics.

Heated hoses are entirely optional.

I wondered why it gave me an odd message when I tried to see if there were any updates. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions!
If you're not wanting to buy new, you can try secondwindcpap.com for used devices. They may have an S9 VPAP or an Aircurve 10 Vauto.

Also, occasionally, some of the members here have machines available.

I hope you find what you're looking for!

Resmed . . . better than Respironics.
I consider that true in general and particularly true with bilevel modality.

I used to hesitate to say so, but people need to know.

I kept hoping Respironics would somehow catch up, in the interests of good competition in quality making every market better. I have lost that hope.

Your basic auto bilevel fancy schmancy stuff is just the same as an your apap, but with more difference between the inhale and exhale... so your experience is applicable.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations!

I'm going to contact the insurance company tomorrow and see what I can get done to get the ResMed S10 AirCurve VPAP Auto w/Heated Humidifier. I'm hoping the best time to do it is when no one wants to see you in person. Maybe they'll cut me some slack since I already have a machine. :|

ResMed S10 AirCurve VPAP Auto
That's "Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto"
There's no such thing as a 's10', they changed the series naming from S something to Aircurve 10, and the machine from "VPAP Auto" to "VAuto".

using the right terms leads more directly to the desired results.
