CPAP Sanitizer- SoClean 2

Post by Metrodigit » Sun Apr 26, 2020 8:31 am

I am a new CPAP user and I ordered the SoClean 2 and started using it with my Phillips Dreamstation Auto CPAP Machine. I am hearing mix messaging regarding the safety of the SoClean machine as it leaves Ozone odor and it is difficult to get used to. Does anyone with long time use of the SoClean 2 machine to speak to the safety and effectiveness vs. normal mask and tube washing weekly with soap and water? Thanks

I am using a SoClean 2 device. I can smell the ozone but it doesn't bother me. It isn't unsafe at the levels you will get from what is left in the tubes after a cleaning.

For me it is much better. Cleaning the tubes every day is a pain and I frankly didn't do it very often. For me I think it is safer for me to use it as the germ level will be much less since I am not cleaning the tubes every day when I don't have one.

I have an air purifier that uses ozone (an Alpine) so I am probably more used to it than most people. We will sometimes get it out and crank it up in the house and leave for a few hours and then air out the place.

Ozone is a poisonous gas. It will damage your lungs. If you smell it..guess what...it can hurt you. Smelling it isn't a good thing.

Your choice, your life, your lungs, your money but I wouldn't have one in my house even if it were free.

What she said.
Soclean is a SCAM.
It can hurt you, and void the warranty on your machine.
"They" saw you coming didn't they?
If it is not too late, RETURN it.

Also note (from SoClean's own directions)
"The SoClean will inhibit facial oil build-up, but it will not remove the oils"

-This means as much as not too much at all.

It means regularly washing / rinsing with lukewarm water and (dish) soap is still the way to go...

I consider that spending a little bit of the time I get back because of better sleep is well spend on cleaning the stuff for a couple of minutes a day and a bit more thorough once a week... still a very positive time balance :-)

Confession: I thought about buying a SoClean, but was "to cheap" to do it right away... then read up on it and realized that I had more benefit from the "ZEN" of cleaning my new found friend, regardless of the money :-)

There are no mixed messages.

There are gullible fools that fell for the scare marketing, and then there's science, and truth, and voided warranties.

If you can *smell* ozone, then it's too much for the safety of your lungs.

Facts is facts.

"Me?" he said impishly, "just a little".
The evil ones are the people that prey on people, taking their money for patent nostrums that don't have any useful function, like soclean and the other ozone machines, marketed to provoke fears from the ignorant so they can rip them off. or well, so much of anything marketed with any 'medical' slant, like the only actual cpap *cleaner* is an ultrasonic cleaner, but they took something that looks suspiciously like the $79 Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner, slapped "CPAP" on it, and charge over $200.

That shit pisses me off.

I have been using a CPAP for almost 20 years . I occasionally cleaned with peroxide or alcohol. never really thought it necessary. However I also have COPD. I get bronchitis once or twice a year. I exhale back into the tubing and mask. Since bacteria can survive my sleep cycles I have decided it would be prudent to sanitize.

Alcohol or peroxide are at least as effective as SCAMclean--and many times safer.
With COPD, you need to AVOID ozone---PLEASE!

You can't re-infect yourself, you get over those things because your immune system learns how to defend itself against that bug at that point.
