Curious if it matters if you use resmed hose on dreamstation and vice versa as long as they aren't heated hoses since those aren't compatible?
For last month my AHI has drastically increased and pressures maxing out. I've been feeling extra exhausted despite modafinal. Machine was recording a lot more central apnea's as well.
It was showing a lot more leaks as well and I felt the leaks when exhaling because pressure was high.
Anyways last night I was trying to go to bed and and felt like machine had a lot of pressure so I checked it and it was at 13 instead of 10 and it was only on for a couple minutes.
I switched back to respironics hose and pressure didn't seem as high and machine read 10. When I woke up this morning I checked app and 90% pressure was 11 instead of 15 like it has been and AHI was under 1 again instead of 5 to 7 range it has been. I'm even not feeling super exhausted and felt like I had better sleep.
I put back on the resmed hose and held hand over one end and turned on machine to check for leaks in hose but I couldn't find any issues.

As long as it's not a heated hose or one of the weird mini travel machines,
any hose works with any machine.
And there are workarounds if you just unpacked 500 miles from home.
Slim hose vs regular width may require a setting change.

Non heated hoses are interchangeable among all brands....but do make sure that the hose diameter selection feature on the machine is set to the correct diameter. Heated hoses the machines will automatically make the adjustment for you but for non heated hoses we have to set the diameter manually.

How can I tell if I have slimline or regular resmed hose?

Re: Does it matter what brand hose you use?
You probably can't tell unless you have both...most hoses these days are slimline. Your machine doesn't care which you use. There is a setting on your machine to tell which one you are using. Even if you have the incorrect one set, it makes an insignificant difference in pressure.

Re: Does it matter what brand hose you use?
I checked both hoses. My normal respironics hose is labeled 15. The resmed hose isn't labeled but the outside diameter does look a little bit bigger. Not sure of thickness thought to get inner diameter.
So it's probably bigger, it would make sense that it would need higher pressures to fill larger space.

Re: Does it matter what brand hose you use?
Outside diameter isn't useful because the connectors are all universal in size to fit all humidifiers and all mask attachments.
Take a piece of string or yarn or whatever and wrap it around the Respironics hose with 15 on it and then do the same thing to the ResMed hose. If it is the same...it's a slimline hose.

Re: Does it matter what brand hose you use?
That would be the outside diameter. Not a good way to check actual inside diameter without cutting hose. Hose thickness could be different between manufacturers but it's a decent size bigger so I'm confident the resmed is not slimline like my respironics hose.Pugsy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 9:58 amOutside diameter isn't useful because the connectors are all universal in size to fit all humidifiers and all mask attachments.

No, that would be the outside circumference and it would indeed get you a very close estimate of internal diameter. The wall thickness for the hoses aren't going to be that much difference. We are talking maybe fractions of 1 mm difference in wall thickness.USMCVet wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 10:06 amThat would be the outside diameter. As for your image....the hose on the left...is that the 15 mm hose? If so the one on the right is probably the standard diameter...probably 22 mm.
Give me a bit and I will take pictures of a Respironics hose and a ResMed non heated hose....I gotta go find one first.

Re: Does it matter what brand hose you use?
Wow I'm an idiot lol, your absolutely right. Just by looking i think your right about thickness too. I'm guessing resmed might be 0.5 mm thicker. Resmed is definitely more rigid.Pugsy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 10:10 amNo, that would be the outside circumference and it would indeed get you a very close estimate of internal diameter. In my picture they are both unheated hoses.

I use Lin(Don'tCare) as a supplier, you get whatever they buy, not the name brand, just unnamed generic. they work as I don't wash or remove them, never had a hose fail, do change them out yearly so stock stays fresh. Don't want a spare to bo bad. Jim
You never get a brand name, except for masks and headgear.
