Check to make sure the small exhaust holes are not clogged.

If there is any moisture (like after you wash it and maybe it hasn't completely dried), that may be the cause of the noise.

Edit: It is very possible that the problem could be from water droplets. If that's the case, wiping down the vent holes can be useful to remove stray droplets.

However... I tried my AirFit F20 straight out of the box, and it also had the high-pitched whine. So droplets aren't always the reason. There could be no droplets clogging vent holes because the mask was totally dry when I tried it on, just out of the box. I discovered that by joggling the cowl and mask swivel connector around a bit, the worst of the high pitch resolved. I do not mean simply moving the elbow part through its twenty-degree arc. I mean the cowl and connector specifically within the tolerances of its fit while connected to the mask. But still occasionally, when putting on the mask totally dry, it emits that high-pitched whine -- which can again be resolved by jiggling the cowl and mask swivel connector. (See graphics below.)

I suspect a strand of the filter fiber used to dampen sound and diffuse air flow is getting lodged at just the right angle in one or more of the vent holes at just the right angle to cause a high-pitched noise. Joggling the cowl and mask swivel connector seem to work. It's about as obnoxious as a mustache hair tickling your nose after you've masked up, but is just as easily resolved.

This is a masterpiece of design. I'd been so concerned that I couldn't feel a copious stream of air billowing furiously from any particular place the first night that I had to look closely at the construction to alleviate my concerns that there was reasonable small leak happening to ensure anti-asphyxia. Well done, Resmed.

After some headaches, and higher interruption (AHI) scores, I noticed that one of my f20 elbows was broken (the white snap-on portion was compressed).
It helps to have two of these critters, so that you can see if anything gets   our of kilter.
The elbows are not cheap. I found a good replacement Ebay

Happy breathing

Seems like I am having the same issue. Seems related to moisture I guess.
