DEEP SLEEP ?

Post by kekosurfer » Sun Mar 04, 2007 12:16 pm

I have been on APAP three weeks and last night I sleep for 9 hrs straight !
I can not remember a time in years that I did not wake up at least 1-3 times a night. This morning I feel really groogy, I guess this is from 9 hrs of straight sleep. I thought you were supposed to feel great after 9 hrs of sleep ?

Comments are welcomed...

Warmest Regards,
Keko

The first week I was on cpap, I couldn't believe how much more soundly I was sleeping. I had the reputation of literally waking up at every little noise. My teenager couldn't go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and I'd wake up. Even with the door shut and my fan on. The first week, he got up a couple of times and I didn't hear him at all - a miracle, to be sure. I slept so soundly that I was stiff in the morning because I didn't move all night. The first weekend I slept until 9 am (I've gotten up without an alarm at 5:30 am for years)!. But I felt like I was hit by a bus. My tiredness prior to cpap was more mental than physical, more brain than body. The first 2 weeks of cpap my body literally felt heavy from sleepyness. I was dragging.

I'm still feeling a little tired, but I haven't needed my afternoon nap as often. I think it will take me awhile to recover the health I lost due to lack of good sleep.

Good luck on your journey to health,
Donna

Hi Keko,

If you wake up while you're in slow wave sleep (deep sleep) you will feel dopey. This is where coffee, and exercise come in to their own. You will feel great, just give it a bit of time for your body to adjust. You also have to overcome sleep debt early on.

Have fun enjoying all that sleep.

Your profile isn't filled out, but if you use a nasal interface you may have started mouthbreathing, that will make a change for the worse. Jim
