COVID-19: Wearing a CPAP full face mask outside in the day?

Post by mileena » Thu Apr 02, 2020 10:42 pm

There is talk that face masks will be soon required during the COVID-19 outbreak. Laredo, Texas already requires them and you get a $1,000 fine if you are caught outside without one (see https://www.businessinsider.com/laredo- ... ned-2020-4).

I don't have any masks, unless my insurance or DME supplier can supply me with one? I am thinking of wearing my CPAP FFM with headgear when I go out durng the day. Would this work? I could put duct tape over the openings. Do I need to put the mask frame on it too, or just wear the mask cushion?

The other ideas I have thought of are pantyhose/tights over my head like a bank robber, using a bra around my face, wearing a welding helmet, or wearing my old fastpitch softball helmet and mask.

Here is a gallaery of 51 homemade mask ideas, including using a bandaid and a leaf:

That is patently false.
Also beginning at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2020, all persons over the age of five (5) are
required to wear some form of covering over their nose and mouth, such as a homemade mask,
scarf, bandana, or handkerchief, when: entering into or inside of any building open to the
public; when using public transportation, taxis, or ride shares; or when pumping gas. This does
not apply when a person is: engaging in a permissible outside physical activity; that are riding in
a personal vehicle; that are in alone in a separate single space; that are with their own shelter
group (household members); when doing so poses a greater health, safety or security risk; or
for consumption purposes.
The penalty for a violation of this section shall be a Class C
misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000.00

So, I'd say that if you duct tape all the openings, it'll work great for about 2 minutes, after which point you'll pass out, and die.

put the mask frame on what? are you planning to duct tape the cushion to your face?

Now THAT'S a good look.

Good point! I never thought of that.

I meant attach the mask frame to the mask cushion, since the mask frame has a butterly valve which blocks the air going out.

Go to Etsy.com and search face masks, There are LOTS of home made masks for under $10. I have also seen them on Craigslist.

Wear a bandana like Rowdy Yates did when Mr. Favor put him on drag for getting into Wishbone's sugar barrel.

CPAP masks are not designed for the purpose of excluding particles. That applies to both inhaled and exhaled particles. It might, however, prevent you from inadvertently touching your nose or mouth (assuming we're talking full face mask).

.
bandanna or home made. my daughter just sent us a few that she made.

as far as i can see, or at least what i CHOOSE to believe, the purpose is to prevent me from touching my face. that is, to stop the virus that i may pick up on my hands to reach my face.

the corona virus(hell any virus) wants to enter your body through the eyes, nose or mouth. if i wash my hands properly and use hand sanitizer liberally plus wear the mask in public while maintaining six foot distance, i consider myself as safe as i can get.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Instead of a cpap mask, get one of these:
https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/internat ... r-overload
easy to breathe, can put a filter on the intake, and you can't touch your face.

I'm doing my own thing.

You can't tell me what to do, Palerider. Hey, can someone help me up?...this is kinda heavy.

Image

Seriously, just buy some cloth masks or use a bandana as a homemade mask, plenty of guides online that show how to rig one up.

No no, you're doing fine, as long as you've got plenty of hose, and nobody coughs into the intake... ....

or farts.

I posted this in another thread:
"Hobby Lobby has printed the nice, contoured face mask pattern from craftpassion.com.
They have a stack in the fabric department--free!
Nice to know we don't really need the N95 masks--those suckers are HOT.
Just learn to NOT touch your face!"
Reading the directions is a little tricky--the author writes with an Asian accent.
Makes me smile--

N95 looks like it really messes with the skin on your face a well. Since I'm not planning to intubate any covid patients myself, I'll stick to a basic cloth mask :D
