Looking to buy APAP - S11 anytime soon? - Non-wait Buyers Remorse?

Post by DreamDiver » Sun Mar 29, 2020 4:04 pm

Greetings fellow Pappers! It's been a while!

I still use my S9 every night, but I'm looking a lot at new gear. Also, my S9 Autoset has been giving me the "Motor Life Exceeded" signal for a few years now. I've had it since the first month the S9 was available. It's still performing as expected, but I suspect it's time to buy a new machine. I'm looking at buying the AirSense 10 AutoSet. However, I'm looking at ResMed development/production/pricing cycles and thinking surely there's going to be a new set of S11's coming out soon. Should I buy the 10 now, or should I wait for the S11?

I'm leaning toward buying in the next five minutes because this looks like a reasonable deal on an AS10, but I'm wanting confirmation that it's a good idea, or that the next-gen S11 (or whatever) is going to be a rock-star that will fill your humidifier automatically and tuck you in at night and that I'd probably be better off waiting. Or will the new toy be pretty similar with some nicer specs but at a much higher price, thus making the AS10 a sensible thing to buy now. Should I buy now or wait? Any thoughts?

If any ResMed techs listening in want to PM me, feel free.

Resmed has stopped shipping sd cards with the Airsense 10 models,
but at least they still have the sd SLOT.
Not making any predictions, but what IS their next move?
I have already ordered my next Airsense 10 Autoset For Her.
I am not taking any chances.
But you are welcome to gamble on their common sense and good will.
(Both in short supply last I checked)

Based on the improvements, or lack thereof, between the S9 and the Airsense 10, I doubt there is much to gain and very possibly an SD card slot to lose. Airsense 10 is a good machine, no reason to expect that you would ever regret buying one.

The cpap.com site says they still ship a card with the machine. Look under specifications.

My new Airsense 10 that I got in January did not have an SD card included. It may be an option for the DME to have one included.

Yep! It says that for the ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier too. Thanks prodigyplace!

I'll post back in this thread what the outcome is on this after I receive it. CPAP.com is pretty good about stuff like that.

I had to work to stop my DME from keeping the card that came with my machine 3years ago. I insisted my doctor told me to bring in the card. The DME said the doctor did not need that but I insisted.
Mine was in a ResMed sleeve packed with the machine.

The “for Her” model just adds another mode that some guys like too. Most people here recommend getting that model if you can.

I stopped working with regular DME's when I found CPAP.com for various reasons, one of them being the removal of stuff that should come with the package and the other being how they itemize every single little thing to get more money from the insurance even though they receive the items as a package. Outrageous.

I've heard i should order the "for Her" model. Maybe I should have. Bummer. :(

Maybe the S-11 Model will come out with the He, She, or It versions. Jim

Or with a built in toilet roll holder, empty of course, they shipped it with the roll, but you know DME's.

My daughter just bought the S10 from cpap.com and it came with the memory card. You can't beat cpap.com. I am curious.... how long did you have the S9? Such a good machine. I need a backup machine, and I've been tempted to buy a S9 from Secondwind.

March, 2010.

My machine has 28885 run-time hours on it. I obviously don't have to tell you, but more for noobs who see this thread later, make sure the run-time hours of the machine are as low as possible. Also, buy the AutoSet - not the Elite or worse, the Escape version.

Mine's so old the run hours don't show in the sleep report screen. They show under the service (wrench icon) instead!

When I was looking at machines over the past few weeks, I found lots of S10 autosets and even a few auto aircurves(?) in the $100-300 range! The hours were mostly in the 100-3000 range as well. I ended up deciding to get an S9 ASV with 3,000 hours for $150 on dotmed, but I thought those sounded like good deals if you only need the auto cpap! Of course, if you’ve already hit your deductible or better yet your yearly out of pocket max, having insurance pay for it is ideal!

Is there any reason why people need the SD card specifically from the DME company? Mine came with one, but SD cards are cheap and it seemed like any old one would work. My DME company said insurance would pay for supplies for a machine I bought myself or already owned, but only if they sent me a new SD card so they could get the 90 day compliance data from the old one.
