Septoplasty or Not

Wondering if anyone has had septoplasty.
- Has it made any difference to your cpap treatment eg has it improved it ?
- how long a recover time after the op can you use cpap ? Avg is fine

I had the procedure about 7 years ago..I was not having breathing problems before and I had none after. I was not able to use my CPAP for about 4-5 days. During that time I slept upright in a recliner.

I couldn't tolerate CPAP and couldn't breathe through my nose
I had a Septoplasty/T. Reduction about a year and a half ago.

The difference was unbelievable.

Recovery was 9 days with stents in. I started back on CPAP a few weeks later, but I could have restarted earlier.

I had mine done about 7 months ago. 100% worth it. Wish I would've done sooner.

I had a septoplasty/turbinate reduction done about 4 months before I was officially diagnosed with OSA. As others have said, AMAZING difference in my quality of life! Now I can actually BREATHE through my nose! I have no frame of reference since I did not use CPAP before, but I think it has made it much easier to use nasal pillows. As far as how long after you can use CPAP, yikes, I would think you need to check with your doctor. Mine used splints IN my nose, not packing thank goodness, so I was breathing better immediately after surgery, but it would have been impossible to use a mask. If I recall correctly, the splints were in for a week. I don't recall about tenderness after that. It's been more than 2.5 years.

After 10 years of CPAP use, I found I have not be able to tolerate treatment. CT scan showed a severely deviated septum. ENT pointed out enlarged turbinates and tonsils. 8 weeks ago, I had a septoplasty, turbinate reduction, and my tonsils removed. 1st week of recovery was tough. Now, I have no congestion (for the first time in my life). I tried using my APAP and my 90% pressure dropped from 12 to 9. I still can't tolerate CPAP for more than a day or 2. If I sleep on my side without a CPAP, I feel better than I ever have.

If you intend to not return to using cpap, please have a sleep study to confirm that you can quit it.
