I finally found something to keep my mouth shut
I finally found something to keep my mouth shut
I have tried every kind of masks and chin straps and none of them worked for me to keep my mouth shut. I run across this device on Youtube a couple of weeks ago and it works for me. It's called Dr. Dakota's snoring & CPAP Accessory. I have used this device for a couple of weeks my scores on MYAir app has gone up from 70's - 80's to high 90's- 100!
I haven't posted here in a long time so there may have been discussions about this devised. cpaptalk.com help me so much when I started using my cpap. Just thought I would share.

It's good to know they're still available. For a while they seemed to have disappeared.

as miss e says, that's good news. they were hard to find for a bit. and i'm glad it worked for you, because it did not for me.
back to my firm foam cervical collar i went!

Re: I finally found something to keep my mouth shut
There was a thread here recently where someone was talking about using a soft cervical collar to help with their case, but this looks like it'd be more comfortable and serve the same purpose. Great share! I've largely resolved a problem I had in recent months with mouth leaks, but I may pick one up to keep on hand for nights where I notice I'm having a problem or at risk of it happening (like after a couple drinks).kempo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 9:26 amI have tried every kind of masks and chin straps and none of them worked for me to keep my mouth shut. I'm skeptical these devices would be as effective and durable as a firm foam cervical collar. And, these devices are about three times the cost of a foam cervical collar.
Some have liked the devices because they don't hold in body heat on the back of the neck live the cervical collars do.

Mmmmm... I'm not seeing a 3x difference in price from the brief shopping I just did on Amazon. About 50% or so more, which is excessive still for what you get in comparison, I agree. But the full collar will add more bulk and your point about heat retention is a good one so it boils down to comfort and if the pricier one is more comfy and effective, it is what it is. The heat retention might be a deal breaker for me though even from the front.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 2:31 pm------------>Lifeisabeach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 2:19 pmThere was a thread here recently where someone was talking about using a soft cervical collar to help with their case, but this looks like it'd be more comfortable and serve the same purpose.

I’ve used my Dr. Dakota for about a year, along with the scunci headband and a little tape. My husband likes to make fun of the “sleep well my friend” stitched under my chin.Lifeisabeach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 3:52 pmMmmmm... I had to shorten the strap So it didn’t slip out from under my chin, and I added a quick-release hook so I didn’t have to fumble with the velcro every morning (the “rrrripppp!” wakes my husband up)

Oh yes, it works great! I don't use 2 of them like you do (I've seen the photo and it didn't scare me offzonker wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 7:49 pmso, the scunci trick works for you? i'm always happy to hear it, seeing how i recommend it every chance i get!Tweety wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 5:32 pm

Oh yes, it works great! I don't use 2 of them like you do (I've seen the photo and it didn't scare me off), I just use the one looped over my head and under my chin. The scunci trick eventually allowed me to whittle down to just one small piece of tape in the center of my lips to keep my mouth from opening up under the scunci (instead of having to tape my whole mouth up).

Re: I finally found something to keep my mouth shut
That makes it sound like you are using a Scunci as a chinstrap. That seems to be different from what Zonker does???
BTW, I have used Scuncis with my CPAP treatment in even a third way for nearly a decade.
Re: I finally found something to keep my mouth shut
Good point, i misstated that—the scunci sits on the front of my chin covering my mouth and cheeks so I don’t get chipmunk cheeks.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 7:48 amThat makes it sound like you are using a Scunci as a chinstrap. That seems to be different from what Zonker does???
Wait, what?!? I’ve somehow missed a third way? Oh, I get it, you mean the way it’s supposed to be used. I was picturing all sorts of stuff there for a minute.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 7:48 amBTW, I have used Scuncis with my CPAP treatment in even a third way for nearly a decade.
