SARS-COV-2 PSA (from a chemist)

Post by palerider » Wed Mar 04, 2020 11:59 pm

Derek Lowe wrote:Since this is going to be a post about the coronavirus, let’s start off with this PSA: wash your hands. These viruses have a lipid envelope that is crucial to their structure and function, and soaps and detergents are thus very effective at inactivating them. It’s fast, it’s simple, and it’s one of the more useful things that any individual can do under these conditions.

Things to consider...

Being an enveloped virus (outer membrane is fatty acids), covid-19 is vulnerable to monolaurin created from one of the oils in coconut (it's also in mother's milk protecting newborns) literally pokes holes in that membrane allowing the contents to leak out thus killing that virus particle. Monolaurin is sold as a supplement; I buy from Amazon. Here's a good article on boosting the immune system that also mentions several natural antivirals including monolaurin https://www.urologyofva.net/articles/ca ... une-system

Hypochlorous acid is how our white cells kill pathogens. I use hypochlorous acid spray on all skin irritations/wounds (does not sting) and to disinfect. It was used during WWII as a wound cleaner. It's what my eyelid/lash cleanser is made of. Kills 99.9% of virii, bacteria, germs, mold and fungus/yeast, common cold, flu, strep, staph, athlete's foot, E.Coli, RSV, MRSA, coronavirus (all varieties), and the herpes virus among others. Approved for use in the NICU. Within 60 seconds (after killing pathogens), it turns into saline. I use it on my eye mask, scalp, face to manage rosacea, and to disinfect countertops, sinks, knives, nasty containers, stinky shoes, sour-smelling laundry forgotten in the hamper. I have a friend with horrible eczema that prescriptions drugs did nothing for; I bought her a bottle and durned, its working: no more maddeningly intense itching and her fingernails are starting to grow back! I like the CleanSmart brand's sprayers the best. It smells a bit like a swimming pool but that fades in a few minutes. I buy it from Amazon. This is great stuff! They are mostly out of stock (panic buying) but the one for for CPAP is still available oops out of stock will be available Mar 8 https://smile.amazon.com/CleanSmart-Dis ... s9dHJ1ZQ==. I tried it on my mask but the slight swimming pool scent seemed to cling to the silicone instead of fading. Here's info from a company that makes generators of hypochlorous acid and their suggestion for dealing with this novel corona virus http://www.naoclean.com/download/Propos ... avirus.pdf

Australian’s have the solution for coronavirus, they are buying huge quantities of toilet paper in preparation.
Seems stupid to me, but everyone here is doing it so it must be a good idea.

If the mindless public is doing it, that probably means it's a bad idea.
If you're afraid of extended poopage, buy a bidet, save a forest.

I already have a bidet seat. I stocked up on toilet paper anyway.

How does one disconnect the modem in their Bidet to stop it from sending back usage information to their provider.

Asking for a friend.

In the older retrofitted add-on versions, you simply take the commode out of, um, "com" mode.

I would like to say that it's an honor to post here on a board that has managed to rise above mere potty humor into the more elegant bidet humor once only grasped by the more sophisticated Europeeuns.

Excuse me while I go wash my hands.

P.S. to any from Europe: Please note that when PR wrote "chemist," he was not referring to the kid at your corner pharmacy.
