Learn anything? It's on my DVR, and I am wondering if it is worth watching since it will be taking time away from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Better Call Saul.

Unfortunately, nothing we don't already know, or suspected.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 7:28 amLearn anything? It's on my DVR, and I am wondering if it is worth watching since it will be taking time away from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Better Call Saul.
Our common sense and herd experience has brought us way beyond what they chose to air.
Mostly mass media pap for the 80 IQ public.
Typical Nova pablum. One tends to hope for more . . .
They only get really excited about "green".

I disagree. It's a good general overview, and includes some of the most recent research on sleep (in particular the parts on SWS).chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 11:14 amUnfortunately, nothing we don't already know, or suspected.

Re: Nova: Mysteries of Sleep
Loved it! Over the past 2 years, I have developed cirrcadian rhythm disorder delayed sleep onset (like 4-6 AM
), the whole segment on slow wave sleep with decreased amplitude as we age and the benefit of the binaural beats is something I am going to explore. I have already been listening to one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsfyb1pStdw before sleeping...now will try to see if I can fall and stay asleep with it playing to see if it affects/improves my sleep cycle. Will post if it works. Buddy uses a smartwatch to track sleep as he has very fragmented sleep; his first night of listening to that one (only 5 hrs, he restarted it), his watch showed 7 hrs of deep sleep. He told his VA PT as she has terrible sleep and she was excited to try.
I am still at annual AHI of 0.1, but have had several horrible nights of AHI of 2-2.7, which for me used to 0.1 or 0.2, leaves me feeling lousy and cranky the next day
. Those nights typically when I am also extremely congested with allergy reactions (damn tree orgies
). Nasacort, saline rinses, and Xlear nasal spray are my daily friends.
Sleep doc not esp concerned about sleep cycle as I am still getting 7-8 hrs sleep/night with excellent numbers; he gave me some suggestions and said to call if I want to more aggressively address this.

Re: Nova: Mysteries of Sleep
I thought it was brilliantly done.
It's a little heavy in the beginning with the theoretical and experimental (a lot of "could," might," "possibly," etc.), but that's to be expected for a work on the mysteries of sleep. It is useful to be familiarized with what questions are being asked by researchers, not just what answers have been found. If you make it through that, the information later in the broadcast is more practical for those of us with sleep disorders, in my opinion.
Thanks for drawing our attention to it, Gran.

Re: Nova: Mysteries of Sleep
Did anyone have those hat like things with the electrodes when they did their sleep studies/titrations? I had them literally pasted to my head. It was awful.

Re: Nova: Mysteries of Sleep
I noticed that too.
Better for the patient--also for the tech.
Probably cost a pile of money.
No doubt reserved for the very privileged only.
