Hi guys...6 months

Post by Dbs81 » Fri Feb 14, 2020 5:08 pm

Hi guys, new here and thank you. It's been 6 months...I've tried full mask, nose pillows and back to full mask. I cannot go more than 4-5 hours per night sometimes 2 hours without ripping this mask off nightly!

I'm a nose/mouth breather so full mask is needed. But I wake up, pull it off and hold back to sleep...its not too much air, or air leaks....I just can't get used to it....I'm a side sleeper and cannot with this device.

I'm gonna to give this up....I'm not benefiting at all. Thank you.

David

Maybe if you would have been here 6 months ago you would have got the help you needed to stick to it...It's not too late. Download Oscar software and fill in your equipment so we know what you are using.

David, people here will help you get back up on the horse, give it the old college try, dust yourself off, or any other metaphor you like. Looking forward to seeing more information from you.

And I’m curious: do you breath through your nose during the day?

Hi there, thank you. Yes I breath via the nose during the day.

HI David, the folks here are great and will help you help yourself. I used to be a mouth breather at night, and used the full face mask to start. I was just miserable. Tried the nasal pillows, and by golly, I shut my mouth and started breathing though my nose. There is hope. Hang in there.

I also would rip my mask off and would wake up and find holding in pieces in my hands the initial couple of weeks when I began. Everyone is different, I'm loathe to tell you that you can absolutely side sleep with the mask just because I can do it and many others on here have figure out ways to cope. Maybe you really can't figure out a way. Have you tried any other type of full face masks? Liking and being comfortable with your mask and headgear is a pretty big deal directly related to having a pleasant cpap experience, which many people do..and I think you want that to. I understand you're frustrated, I love my cpap but at times it does seems strange that for the rest of my life I'll sleep with this thing on my face...and then I shrug my shoulders and get to sleep and have a good day that follows.

I believe Cpap saved my life, and moreover saved the lives of those on the road around me. I deliver underground utilities test equipment to construction job sites all over Houston from early in the morning till the evening, I drive 60,000 miles a year and I used to doze off at the wheel habitually. It's only by the Grace of God that nothing ever happened for the 15 years that I did my job while suffering through Extreme OSA.

I really hope you can figure your stuff out, and if not, I'm just sorry and sad for you and yours.
Yay :D For no more diaphragm cramps and dozing off while driving!

What a testimony, gv280z! Thank you for posting that.

David, if you breathe through your nose during the day, you can do it at night too. You might need a little help to avoid mouth leaks -- soft cervical collar and/or tape for your lips -- but nasal pillows might be worth revisiting.

Did you ever try the ResMed P10? Very minimalist. Be sure to try out the different sizes of pillows; I found that I needed to size up to have maximum comfort. More recently I have switched to the Aloha, which is more stable for me. I use it with Pad-a-Cheek strap covers, which are a game-changer. I sleep on my sides and this mask rarely budges.

But that's just me. Everyone's face and sensitivities and sleep behavior are different, so you need to find what works for you. If you can approach it in a spirit of experimentation, so much the better.

Keep us posted, would you?

I thank you for your insight and experience. I'm struggling but still trying to work through it.
