Just got my new AirFit F30i
Just got my new AirFit F30i
I'm new to the board and to CPAP. A week ago today I picked up my CPAP and full face mask, the AirFit F20.
The mask really hurt my nose. My nose was broken years ago and the mask hit right where the break had been -- where the cartilage is weak. Every morning my nose was red and sore, too.
So the DME suggested the Dreamwear and I was due to pick it up today. Reading the reviews here of the F30i I was hoping to get it instead and emailed the DME twice (no response). When I got to my appointment he had the Dreamwear out. I asked if I couldn't get the F30i and he was so happy! The dude likes his job WAY TOO MUCH (/j). He asked me how I'd heard about it and I told him I heard about it on the forum.
He literally went around the office telling everyone I'd heard about the F30i on the forums, lol. He said it is by far the best FFM there is and he was thrilled I'd heard about it.
He fitted me for a small and while it may be a bit of an adjustment having that forced air up my nose, I really love it. It is SO comfortable, especially compared to the F20. Even the mouth piece is just the perfect size!
Tonight is the first night I'll be using it and I'll report back if not tomorrow in a day or two...

What a horrible night! While the mask is physically comfortable it felt like I was in a hurricane. I was blasted with air and there was air circulating outside the mask. The nose piece was sometimes good and sometimes no air came in.
I'm assuming that this is an adjustment issue, at least I hope so! My machine is set at 12 for pressure. This morning's report is the worst since I began using CPAP a week ago.

I’m trying the F30 and I just can’t get used to the higher pressure feel of this style. Feel the same as nasal pillows do to me. Assuming this mask would be the same.
I tried the AirFit F20 before that. Worked great for achieving low AHI, but like you the bridge of my nose after 2 days as very sore. Another day or two and I think it would have rubbed my nose raw.

Take a look at the F&P Vitera mask. I really liked how the cushion was made, but I could not get it to seal around the bridge of my nose. I have a very narrow nose bridge, and the F20 works very well for me. If you want to continue using the F20, try placing a small band aid over your nose, or use a piece of Moleskin on your nose. I did that for over a year when I used the Simplus mask. Moleskin is available at drug stores and Walmart in the foot care section. It is normally used to cover or prevent heal blisters caused by shoes rubbing.

Allergic to band aids! I changed the settings. It was set to a manual 12 instead of autosense. Changed that and put it max 11. Will try that tonight.

I don't think you know what you are doing... From 12 to 11?? How is that going to help your nose? Why don't you download Oscar and look at your data instead of guessing?

Re: Just got my new AirFit F30i
I had no issues with my F30i AFTER I got the adjustments right the first night. This is the ONLY mask that has actually sealed for me without needing liners. I spent longer than I wanted to adjusting the straps the first time I used it, and I was about to get discouraged, but I did manage to get it adjusted correctly & now, even after putting it back together after a cleaning, I am able to readjust quicker now. I also felt the "blast" of air that I had never felt with any other mask I tried before, and it did take me by surprise, but I think it is because it doesn't leak like my other masks did. I am finally getting all the air now.

You didn't understand. It was on MANUAL at 12. It is now autosense from 5 to 10 max. So much better!!!LSAT wrote:I don't think you know what you are doing... From 12 to 11?? How is that going to help your nose? Why don't you download Oscar and look at your data instead of guessing?

LSAT understood fully are you sure max pressure 10 is adequate you should leave the max pressure at 20 it will only go there if needed except in a few special casesshragae wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 10:20 pmYou didn't understand. Have you tried the AirTouch f20 cushion? Fits the same frame as the AirFit, but is soft foam, and at least for me, it needs less tension from the headset to work while not leaking.tsduke wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 7:14 pmI’m trying the F30 and I just can’t get used to the higher pressure feel of this style. Re: Just got my new AirFit F30i
I have not. I'd prefer not to get into a mask that needs replaced montly. Some on this site say it doesn't even make it 1 month. I'm not going through insurance or dealing with a DME.
Re: Just got my new AirFit F30i
Before you spend for a completely new mask, you really should try the Air Touch F20 that fits the frame you already have. A med. cushion is $27 on Amazon. Mine is at almost 2 months, and it still looks like new. This is really a great mask that solves leaking, and comfort issues very well. I would like to try the F30i mask at some point just to get the top of the head hose, but I won't give up my Air Touch.

Re: Just got my new AirFit F30i
My concern is the pressure on my nose. My nose was broken years ago and the cartilage is thin. The weight and pressure could damage it. I don't want to wind up like Michael Jackson!
The F20 gave me better results. Last night was better than the first night, but my stats including mask fit are worse with the F30i. I'm hoping I can work it out.

Re: Just got my new AirFit F30i
I hope you & your F30i are getting along better. All new masks have a learning curve. I really love the F30i, and it has proven to be the best mask for me, but I know it may not be a good fit for everyone. There is no such thing as "one mask fits all" . That's why we keep trying, searching, jury-rigging, in an attempt to find the right solution for each of us.

Re: Just got my new AirFit F30i
Hi Becca.
YES!
We're getting along MUCH better.
After 2 nights of the mask not fitting right and not great results, last night I tried it again (having watched some videos on fitting). I made sure the strap on the top of my head was dead center and that the nose part was not at the bottom of my nose, but actually against the sides of my nose (does that make sense?).
My CPAP said I had a good fit -- and I did! It was more comfortable, no trouble breathing through the nose and the CPAP said it was a good fit with no leaks all night. I hope I just remember how to do it tonight!
MyAir results were very good! I've looked into OSCAR but it looks like a pain (SD cards and all)...
BTW, for some who were worried about me changing my max setting from 12 to 11 and from manual to autosense, I got a call from my doctor's office last night. They were going to send me to the DME for exactly those settings, so all is well.
