New mask raises machine pressure

Post by dkf435 » Mon Feb 03, 2020 2:15 am

Have been using the Respironics Comfort GEL Blue Full Face mask on a Dreamstaion APAP with heated hose. Comfort Gel Blue is no longer available from DME so tried fitting the F&P Vitera as it has a good fit with little leakage, alittle more blead air but it has driven the APAP pressure up over 15cm from a usual range of 10.9 to 13.8 . Is this normal or is there one of the mask settings in the Dreamstation that would compensate for this.

It's not normal at all, Something in YOU is causing the pressure to go up, perhaps the new mask is pushing your jaw back more, which narrows your airway, which causes the machine to raise the pressure more to open the airway back up.

Mask setting are just a fine tuning thing, a fraction of a cm pressure change during the breathing cycle, not even enough to notice.

What are you looking at to see these pressure numbers?

Just wearing a mask that is DIFFERENT from your usual will invite the aliens.
They notice, and it bothers them.
Then they bother you . . .

Is this based on one night with the new mask or a series?
Any other factors - recent cold/flu, nasal congestion, a few drinks etc?
