March 11 computer glitch

Post by Hurricane » Thu Mar 01, 2007 2:14 pm

Software that was programmed before a 2005 law decreed that daylight saving time would start three weeks earlier and end one week later, beginning this year, to save energy. This software is set to advance one hour the first Sunday in April, not March 11. Might just have to remember to reset time on computers, to keep certain programs running true to actual time.

Chances are most (not all), but most are tied to the system date & time on the computer. If you have Windows XP and are set to auto update,. you already have the fix. If you are not set to auto update, go to Windows update now and you can downlaod the fix.

For the record, the Microsoft patch is: KB931836

If you can see your "hidden files" in your computer, you can go into the "C:\Windows" directory and it'll be in blue letters if it's installed.

If you're using a pre-XP machine, you can go into the date/time setting and turn off Daylight Savings Time.......and then just manually adjust the time on the computer when it's appropriate.

(hope I didn't confuse anybody any further with that)

OS X systems also have a patch waiting for them in Software Update.

My Kubuntu system also already had a patch out for it.

http://www.kubuntu.org

It's a distribution of Linux.
Kubuntu's Website wrote:Kubuntu is a user friendly operating system based on KDE, the K Desktop Environment. With a predictable 6 month release cycle and part of the Ubuntu project, Kubuntu is the GNU/Linux distribution for everyone.
