a litttle off topic: fin aid appeal

Post by lyss » Thu Mar 01, 2007 1:31 pm

So a few years ago I bombed out of college. By bombed I mean that I stressed out and ran as fast as I could away from campus. ;p I'm making jokes but it is serious. I was stressed and tired. My blood pressure was up, and my pcos was raging. Also, I had sleep apnea. I was constantly tired, and constantly out of energy. Saying that before felt like a bit of a cop out. Like I was trying to find excuses, but now it feels sort of validated. When I was in school and constantly tired I felt pulled in so many directions and so stressed, and *I* feel that with lack of any real sleep I was unable to manage my stress let alone my time, and school work. I ALSO had a job and a full time live in bed ridden grand parent.

Now I am trying to go back to school and get my financial aid back. The appeal for wants me to choose just ONE reason why I couldn't hack it last time. I was going to choose sleep apnea (illness ect). Now I'm not saying it wasn't also just me, please don't think I am looking for excuses for myself, but I do want it back, and the form wants a reason other than "me".

Do you think its feasible?

Seems like it would be - but then, I'm biased. If the folks reviewing this doubt your statement, just send them this way; if they're willing to read just a little, their eyes might be opened.

I work in the therapy department of a nursing home, and have seen several folks with diagnosed apnea, some of whom have significant dementia as one of the long-term results of OSA. (Many years between onset and diagnosis/treatment.) Certainly the shorter-term effects, although not as profound, are still significant.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have been going through my things looking for a pamphlet or something to send with my files from my doctor. All that she can give me are copies.

If you click our collective wisdom at the top of the page & then click sleep apnea awareness there is an article sleeping with the enemy which may be of some help to you.

Thanks so much! I am going to print and send that with my files.

I just need the Dean to believe that this contributed to my stress, and eroded my ability to handle stress. Hopefully, he will. Its hard because I blamed myself completely so looking for outside reasons hasn't been easy, let alone picking just one, when really they all paint a better picture. I am going to send in my appeal on Monday. Wish me luck!
