CPAP Use in RV

Post by River-Runner » Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:31 am

I have a toy hauler with four 6-volt batteries wired to provide 12-volts and about 460 Amps. Recharged via generator or solar.
My wife and I both use ResMed Aircurve 10 machines.
We each have the ResMed OEM DC power cord that takes 12-volt house power to 24-volts.
Assume we plug into 12-volt sources I wired into the RV.
We'd run both machines without the humidifier, hose heater on Airplane mode.
We would not run the CPAP units with the generator running, but might with the solar recharging the batteries.

Problem: I've got a couple guys telling me the furnace fan and maybe the water pump motor will send surges through the RV electrical system that MIGHT damage the electronics of the CPAP machines.

Anyone have knowledge of this issue who could provide feedback? Two of our ResMed machines damaged by electrical surges would be a significant hit.

The Resmed 12v converter is very sophisticated, with a *lot* of filtering.

I wouldn't worry about the small power fluctuations your motors can cause against your battery bank.

I don't have ResMed, I use Dreamstation. Just want to share how I solved the need to use my CPAP in our RV. My husband installed a "cigarette lighter" thing near the bed. Don't ask me how, but it was easy for him. Bought this adapter from Amazon, voilla, worked perfectly. Didn't need to do anything special with the battery on the camper and we don't go to campgrounds so we are never plugged into an outside power source. I know *exactly nothing* about voltage, amps, etc. but my husband told me the CPAP machine draws very little power and not to worry about it. So I didn't.

Hi -
Do you keep the humidifier attached to your Dreamstation when you're using it in the RV?

I'm wondering if the Dreamstation will work even with the humifidier attached - not for the humidifier to actually run while on battery, but that some humidification would occur as the air passes over the water (passover humidification).

Yes, it will, just turn the humidity level to off.

Yes, I do, at the same settings as home. Didn't adjust anything. As I said, my husband said not to worry about it, it will be fine...and he was right.
