Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
I have a somewhat new AS10 (got it about two months back) that I have been using in place of my F&P Icon that I used for about 7 years. There are definitely some things about the AS10 that I like better, but there seems to be an issue I can't "solve."
I have tweaked my configured therapy to use a pressure range of 7-20 instead of the prescribed 5-20 (I was using 7.5-20 on the F&P and it made a noticeable, improved difference for me as that machine was apparently either not titrating at all or not quickly enough to raise the pressure when I needed it to). I have also disabled the RAMP control as I have no issue with it starting right out at 7.
I quite like how much quieter this machine is than the F&P (which I always felt was quiet in its own right), but I notice that removing my mask in the middle of the night causes a significant amount of "noise" from the machine itself as there is some significant change in the air delivery when there is basically zero back pressure from the mask. I can live with this for the short period that the mask is off because I'm awake anyhow to reposition it or something. What I can't STAND, is that there are times when I get a similar (not as pronounced) increase in noise level from the machine itself when I'm breathing IN. It's like I'm sucking air from the machine instead of the machine providing it under pressure. I tossed the mask and turned off the machine on a couple of occasions simply because I could not fall asleep with the noise that it was making (and I got similar commentary from the other side of the bed, too... lol).
Any thoughts on this? Is this something I can address in the settings? There is a lot more to the adjustments of this machine than the F&P and I simply haven't gone through it well enough yet to understand it all, but I know that the 5-20 pressure settings that were initially set weren't helping me to get to sleep, especially with the ridiculously long ramp time that was set up.
On an unrelated note - I don't use the humidifier but it is installed (I believe there's a "plate" that I could install in its place but I don't have it. Thoughts on this in general? What would be a good temp / climate setting to use in this circumstance as I do sometimes either get moisture on my face under my mask or feel that my sinuses are congested / plugged. I stopped using the humidifier with my F&P because my face was wet multiple times every night and I had to pull the mask to wipe it off.

Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
Which one?
Please find it on the list, and set your equipment listing in your profile as indicated on the chart:
wiki/index.php/CPAP_models
The proper word is "adjusting".
Yes, that's the machine trying to pressurize your entire bedroom, which won't happen.
If it just happens now and then, no idea. Could be a leak, if you're using EPR, the pressure is higher when you're inhaling.Ember1205 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 8:20 pm

The reason this forum exists is because of the failures of doctors to adequately treat their patients.
The plate makes the machine a little bit narrower, but that's it.Ember1205 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 8:20 pm

If your face is wet, turn the humidifier down (If you were using it) you could try 'auto'.

Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
The equipment I have doesn't seem to appear in the listing the same way that it appears as an option in my profile. I believe I have it set right. It's an AD10 APAP.
I have never used the humidifier on this machine as I stopped using it on the old machine months before getting the new machine. The only seeing on the F&P for humidification is to set the temp for the heater under the water chamber - I ran it at 0 (off) and it was too much.
With regard to the significant increase in nose if I remove the mask - the nose comes solely from the machine. There is no increase in airflow from the mask.
What is EPR? I think it's enabled as an initial setting.

It's got the REF number from the back of the machine, AND the entry to pick from the equipment table.

Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
I am confused about what you are trying to accomplish Are you inserting the humidifier tank with simply no water? But you want to try adding some humidity? What are your current settings?Ember1205 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 8:20 pmOn an unrelated note - I don't use the humidifier but it is installed (I believe there's a "plate" that I could install in its place but I don't have it. If so, you could turn humidity off but use a full tank. This would start with a tiny bit of humidity. IIRC, you could still use the heated hose.

When is this happening? After you have had the mask off, at random intervals, after a big leak?Ember1205 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 8:20 pmWhat I can't STAND, is that there are times when I get a similar (not as pronounced) increase in noise level from the machine itself when I'm breathing IN. Please check that you have the humidifier properly installed and it's gasket in place. The only time I've experienced loud noise from the machine is when the humidifier isn't snapped into place correctly.
Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
The REF on my machine is 37028. That translates to "ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP". That isn't an option to choose from in the equipment section. The closest matches are:
ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier
AirSense™ 10 CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier (what's the difference between this one and the one shown prior here?)
AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ For Her CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier
AirSense™ 10 Elite CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier
And none of those directly matches the description from the chart. Further, all of them have "with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier" as part of the description and there is a section in equipment to choose the humidifier (or not). In THAT section, it is referred to as HumidAire and not HumidAir. So, at the very least, choosing the right information to list is not as straightforward as one might expect. It could be a lot cleaner and clearer, including not having a reference to my machine listed twice, in two different ways and maybe even having the reference numbers listed as part of the way to choose the correct machine.
Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
I don't use the humidifier, and am not looking to. Its use caused me a lot of problems in my previous machine and I'm used to sleeping without it.TropicalDiver wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 10:11 pmI am confused about what you are trying to accomplish Are you inserting the humidifier tank with simply no water? With no desire or need to use it, what are suggested settings on the machine? I've turned off the humidity setting, but hose temp is still set and I'm wondering if it should be (and to what) to maintain comfort.
Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
It seems random. Yes, it will occur after a big leak (mask removal for 10 seconds), but it has also occurred at times when there's no mask issue and the resultant noise wakes me up (combined with the machine actually not supplying air at a rate at least equal to my air intake when breathing in - think along the lines of "gasping for air", but certainly not that extreme).TropicalDiver wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 10:16 pmWhen is this happening? Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
Yep. Been down that path. No issues with the seal. The machine works great for long periods. This issue crops up unexpectedly, and it seems that only allowing the machine to go through its 20 minute "cool-down" process where it continues blowing air will rectify it.
Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
You will find your machine listed under R..for Resmed. (Can't tell you why)... Also, your machine has a setting called smart start. It will automatically turn on your machine when you put on your mask and start breathing...and it will automatically turn the machine off when you remove the mask (Takes about 5 seconds). This will eliminate the need for pressing the on/off button.Ember1205 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 7:45 amThe REF on my machine is 37028. That translates to "ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP". So, I should use the non-matching "ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier" because it contains the manufacturer name and should not use the non-matching "AirSense™ 10 CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier" because it doesn't contain the manufacturer name?LSAT wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 8:15 am

As mentioned earlier - neither of these is a proper match to what's shown in the table, and I don't understand why the humidifier info is part of the name when that is supposed to be chosen separately. Confusing.
What benefit does Smart Start provide here for this specific issue? I do not see why a short mask removal should cause the issue I'm having, nor do I understand how Smart Start might address it when turning the machine off and back on manually doesn't help...
Or, were you just suggesting use of the setting in a more general sense?

Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
The one without the manufacturer name in this case is a straight CPAP machine that works with a fixed pressure. The one with the manufacturer name is an Autoset or APAP machine that varies the pressure when the machine determines it is needed. They are very different - knowing what equipment you have is really helpful to the people trying to help you here.Ember1205 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 8:34 amSo, I should use the non-matching "ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier" because it contains the manufacturer name and should not use the non-matching "AirSense™ 10 CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier" because it doesn't contain the manufacturer name?

Re: Autosense 10 Issue? Maybe it's the settings?
Airsense 10 cpap and Airsense 10 autoset are different machines as is the "for her" machine. Each machine does different things. I believe all have the humidifier but some manufactures have separate humidifier add ons.Ember1205 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 8:34 amSo, I should use the non-matching "ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier" because it contains the manufacturer name and should not use the non-matching "AirSense™ 10 CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier" because it doesn't contain the manufacturer name?LSAT wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 8:15 am
