Snoring while on CPAP? (newbie)
Greetings!
Well, first of all, I DID IT! I made it 5 hours! Muscled through the crippling anxiety that was causing me to hyperventilate each time I put the mask on and obsess relentlessly throughout the day for the past week.
Second, is it possible to still snore while on CPAP? I have the Philips Respionics Dream Station with DreamWear nasal pillows. I messed up the app that tells me the stats because I turned the machine on and off twice before I calmed myself down, so it only registered 100% mask fit and 0 minutes. And then I also use SnoreScore app that showed I was all over the board!!!
I'm kind of thinking it's just picking up the noise from the machine but curious if I might be doing something wrong. Also, it looked like the pressure didn't move off 4 last night (I woke up to 4). Does it ramp down in the mornings?
Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to read and reply. This board is my lifeline right now.

Yes, you can still snore while on CPAP.
This might be indicative of not enough pressure.

Autoset machines ramp up and down in response to flow limits and snores. If the settings haven't been 'fined tuned' then 'all over the place' is pretty standard.
A minimum pressure of 4 is pretty low for an adult.
I personally feel like I am being starved for air at anything less than 6. My better half stops complaining about my snoring at a minimum pressure of 7.

Re: Snoring while on CPAP? (newbie)
I would bump the minimum pressure setting to 6 or 7 (the high can stay high) and see how things go.

you've gotten plenty of good advice. please pay particular attention to the concise list dog slobber posted. it will be invaluable in getting the help you need. the "newbies" link is in my sig below as well as a link for the oscar software.
one of the things you can do to help ease that anxiety about wearing the mask at night is to wear it while not in bed; reading, watching tv or doing chores. this will help your panicked brain get used to it.
good luck!

If your pressure is too low, yes, it's possible to snore.

The OP doesn't have an autoset, but AutoSets and the OP's machine all raise pressure in response to snores, flow limitations, hypopneas and obstructive apneas.harrywr2 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 10:32 amAutoset machines ramp up and down in response to flow limits and snores. OPs machine isn't as responsive as an AutoSet.

Re: Snoring while on CPAP? (newbie)
You can snore on CPAP, but it means your treatment is not optimal. If snoring persists, you should call the doctor who prescribed CPAP.

Re: Snoring while on CPAP? (newbie)
Welcome!
How many nights have you used it so far? I know for my first like 5 nights I dreaded going to sleep and put it off as long as I could!
As far as anxiety when starting I found it helpful to breathe slowly and calmly when ramping up. I like the ramp and starting at 4-5, it works for me. But like other said starting at a higher pressure may work better for you.
Also I know I made this mistake so remember it’s constant air IN. You ARE getting air. When I started I thought the machine was pushing air in and sucking it out. Weird right? But no constant air pressure! We aren’t suffocating. We tell the machine we are breathing it just makes sure we have extra air to KEEP us breathing.

Re: Snoring while on CPAP? (newbie)
Thank you all! I have an appointment with the DME tomorrow to hopefully up the beginning pressure. Hopefully that will help. Last night anxiety was horrible, almost 2 hours to feel like I wasn't having a heart attack and suffocating...without the mask!!! I'll get there eventually. Thanks for the feedback about the pressure...I feel hopeful about that!

The DME can do nothing without a dr’s prescription to change your settings. You however can change your own settings get the clinical manual from https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manualMarcieCPAPsux wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 10:56 amThank you all!
